Absolutely Criminal

Does anyone get anoyed of when you think about the millions of peple wasting money on the latest and greatest shaving gel/foam in a can?

Only last year did discover DE shaving and how inexpensive the soap/cream can be.
I hate to think how much money i've wasted on Nivea Sensitive Skin goop and the Gillete Mach 10 (or whatever is out next) carts.

Gillette Fusion ProGlide Gel Hydrating
- £3.99

For £4 you could afford to buy a nice tub of cream that wil last a year.
For £4 you could buy 8 Palmolive/Erasmic sticks.
For £4 you could buy 3 tubes of Real Shaving Co Cream!

That may be the wrong question for this forum. Sure the Mach whatever costs alot of money but once you get into DE shaving the costs add up astronomically. We must have every DE product to try them all, it dosen't matter if you already have a stockpile of 500 blades or 20 different soaps!

I use Barbasol more than my brush and soaps now a days. It does a fine job and my straight razor glides just as well. It's also far cheaper than any internet ordered soap or cream.

Interesting to hear this perspective on things. Seems very taboo on this forum based on my very short time here so far

I think that most people think that they are helping their skin using all those things. And the goop and stuff might actually help after running one of those rip and tear 5000 cartridges. I share a lot of those types of things that I learn with my friends and if they're receptive, great! If not, ok.

I've never used aerosol shaving (anything). Had a chance to by a can of Barbasol at the local thrift for 50¢ but passed. When I went back it was gone. Oh well. Can't see paying retail for something that is no more than a curiosity to me

No, no. I am definitely saving money so far. If for no other reason than that all of you can say "I know this guy on the Internet, he saves money DE shaving."

I can say my shaving costs have NOT gone down.

DE is definitely a much more expensive, but enjoyable way to go about shaving. Well worth the investment!

You know.....The can of goop and buying carts WAS cheaper now that I think about it. BUt not nearly as much fun.
My costs have gone down, then again I don't have 20 razors, nor will I. My $5 SS lasts me 4x longer than did any gel or foam in a can. So for me - the cost of my razor (comparable to purchasing a fusion power) is the only part that is more expensive, or the same. Price out replacement cart rages to blades for DE. Compare the cost of four cans of gel to one decent tub of cream or SS. So with wet shaving your money goes further. If you choose to buy more shaving goods with the money saved, that is a choice, but doesn't make it more expensive. Straight razor shaving cuts out the cost of replacement blades but requires a larger up front investment.

Most of us here are hobbyists. We enjoy our shaving and thus like any hobby invest into it. If we all smoked pipes for our hobby we'd all have 10 or more pipes. But for people like me, that see shaving as apart of my daily routine and not a hobby, we save money. Don't get me wrong, I love shaving. I love showers too, but they aren't a hobby :wink2:, to me it is part of being a man, the fraternity of all men who groom. It is the ritual and not the tools I enjoy. So yes, you can be a wet shaver who saves money - or you can be a wet shaver hobbyist/collector/connoisseur. If you're the latter - own it - and don't pretend that it's anything other than your choice to be the latter has made it just as expensive; if not more.

There are benefits to both - with out hobbyists investing time and money into researching and exploring shaving, guys like me wouldn't be able to tap their experience to help save me money. So thank you to all who don't save money doing it, because you have enabled me too.

While my costs have escalated, so has my enjoyment.

Oh I'm certainly saving money. Even with the few different creams and few different soaps I purchased, if I had been sticking with Gillette Fusions and the canned goop I would have spent more in replacement cartridges and cans than I have so far in blades, soaps, and creams.

I really think I have only started to save money shaving in the last few months. It took me literally spending thousands of dollars on shaving "collectables" and consumables to get there. My only chance of recouping the losses is to sell the entire collection on ebay and BST, and I don't think I have the strength for it.

I know I will see a savings given some time but the initial investment, including finding my favorite combination of products, does add up to a fairly significant cost. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a collector but I do enjoy trying new things. I can already see my AD slowing down as I find some "favorites". I'm sure that'll I'll get to the point where I'm mostly replenishing blades and soaps. I say soaps (as in multiple) because I do like to switch it up and I don't see that changing.
