What's new

A New Year, and a new, mint Aristocrat #21

Happy New Year to all B&B'ers!

After wishing my wife & son today morning, I headed straight to my modest razor collection to soak in the sights of some nice razors. There sitting inside a nondescript box was a mint British Aristocrat #21 that I acquired recently but had not gotten around to share some pictures with fellow B&B'ers. I think this is an Australian set, but I would be glad to be corrected.

It sure is a sight to see & hold those Rhodium plated British Aristocrats, and more so if its a new in box / mint razor that was manufactured more than 60 years ago! Some pictures of the razor & case below. Please excuse the average quality as the pictures were taken in less than ideal condition.

Aristocrat #21 razor case, incredibly shiny by itself:

I do not think this outer box is original since the outer shippers of Aristocrats have a nice green & blue theme with the Gillette logo & the name Aristocrat.

The Aristocrat #21 with its plastic cover still intact and the instruction sheet:

The instruction sheet is for an open comb aristocrat, but the seller I purchased from confirmed that instruction sheet was part of the set when they got it. I do not know if this is something other members have seen so I'd appreciate your response if you have seen instruction sheets mixed up like in this set.

Interior of the case with six unused blades still in their container. Notice the pristine condition of the interior velvet liner:

The razor without its cover. The photograph does not capture the incredible shine that a mint Rhodium plated Aristocrat has. One can imagine how buyers sixty four years ago would have felt holding such a beautifully crafted razor in their hands and shave with it!

The TTO doors are incredibly shiny albeit with what looks like blemishes which I suspect are flea bites. I'm afraid of trying to remedy this and end up spoiling the mint quality of the razor so it will stay as is:

Couple of more pictures in the next post below

Pictures continued. TTO doors open. Note the original insert warning customers not to force close the doors but use the knob at the base of the handle:

Underside of the razor head showing British patent number 430030 and the Gillette logo. Again very shiny:

That's about it for pictures. I'd appreciate confirmation that this is indeed an Australian #21 set and if the instruction sheet mix up has been seen in other sets or if it is simply an incorrect instruction sheet in my set!

yes, they were made for Australia in England.

Those are the original instructions sheets, they used the open comb instruction sheets to save money on printing .

great pics, love the look and sex appeal of the razor.

Brilliant razor, enjoy the luxurious shaves it bestows (I can only imagine)! I used a similar #15 to ring in the New Year, then I tried to avoid the Mummers Parade in Philadelphia (don't ask), on my way to Chinatown to fill up on Dim Sum!

Your instruction sheet is the same as that which came with my set.
