I'll have to start keeping track. So far though, out of every blade I've used the best I've had was with the Dorco Titan at 4 shaves and the Van Der Hagen Ice Tempered Stainless at 4 as well. The shark chrome seriously irritates my skin, and the Treet BB only lasted me one shave before it kicked the bucket. I try to shave every day, but after the Shark Chrome I had to stop for 3 days. The Van Der Hagen took the extea stubble like a champ though.Welcome from western North Carolina. I would be interested to learn what you think of each of the brands.
I already have two (of the same) brushes and a bunch of soap samplers and cream. Think It's too late for me?Nice haul!
Great way to get set up for years.
Now, no matter what anyone says or what you may here, you only need one soap/cream and one brush. That's how we do it here.
Already had one of those "acquisition disorders". Got 50 Treet 7 Days for $7.59, and a Gillette (Possibly Super Speed but I won't know intil it gets here) Also looking at some Gillette 7 o clocks, Gillette '62 Slim, and '77 Slim.Wow, quite a selection of good blades! If you use one a week, that's over 30 years worth. Now, if you can avoid all the other acquisition disorders, you should be set for a long time.

I was estimating about 18 years if I use 2 blades a week, but I could probably manage 1 a week.I had to get my calculator out, it's a story problem.
If Gary has 1767 razor blades, shaves every other day, and uses each blade for 5 shaves, how long before he uses his last blade, in years? (Show your work.)
2 x 5 = 10 (number of days each blade used)
10 x 1767 = 17670 (total number of days to use all)
17670 ÷ 365 = 48.41 years (or well past my "use by" date)
...and you paid a mere 2.54 cents per blade...a steal.
Anyway, welcome to the show.
Speaking of plating, my one concern is that it seems like Gillette was using Nickel for some of the models? Nickel doesn't agree with me.We'll be happy to help you acquire things if you'd like.
You are on a good path with vintage gear. There are some nice ones out there. Consider one of the Gillette New open comb razors (short comb or long comb). Nice design on those and they are solid brass so can be replated to look like new. If you like the idea of single edge razors, have a look at one of the Gem Micromatic models (oops, they don't accept the kind of blades you just bought).
Starting with a bang! Welcome aboard.Speaking of plating, my one concern is that it seems like Gillette was using Nickel for some of the models? Nickel doesn't agree with me.

Yep, have a couple I'm bidding on at the moment. I love the Henson, but I wanted to get something adjustable to try out.Starting with a bang! Welcome aboard.
Yes, some Gillette DE razors were nickel plated. Lots of gold-washed brass if you go back far enough, to 3-piece razors before the Tech. Plus some silver on brass. My vintage stores are full of brass/gold Gillettes for not much money. The New Long Comb and New Short Comb are great razors if you are starting on vintage Gillette. I regularly see functional versions in good shape for $20 or less. Generally much of the gold or silver is gone.
