What's new

A Dead DUCK lives again : )

This is for a fellow forum member. Just for fun. This thing was a real challenge, trying to remove pitting without ruining the very thin blade was very tedious. The back of the blade looked almost as bad as the face of the blade. There was an X scratched into the front scale below the pivot pin that had to be sanded out. This sleeping beauty is now awake and shave ready. The owner can make himself known here if he wishes.

Real nice job! That's a good example of how far gone a razor can be and still brought back to life.

wondeful job!!! truly impressive!

you've given me hope for a satinedge I recently picked up - it's current condition is no where near as bad as the duck you just resurrected. pretty much just needs polishing, the scales and the scale ornaments need some work....and honing.

thanks for sharing!!! inspirational indeed!

I'm actually the proud owner of the duck.

Having just started out with straights, and wetshaving for that matter, I'm truely greatful for the community here. I purchased a whippeddog straight a few months back and have really been liking it. I came across the three straights in the top picture on a weekend trip at various places. I posted them, and Jim (HLS) said he would take a stab at trying to restore the duck, and he truely has done a great job. I can't wait to see it in person as I've only seen the pictures, but judging from the pictures, its a true beauty.

Thanks Jim

well congratulations!!!! oneof my best shavers is a dubl duck goldedge - got it in near mint condition... they hold an edge very very well too!
I know the feeling of anticipation you have!!! congrats again!

oh yeah, you mentioned you are newish to straights. careful ofthat point - i've nicked myself more than a few times with the point of a square point blade. just be cognizant of it when using the razor :)
