2023 Shave Purchase Sabbatical - The Year of The Prisoner

Began de shaving last February. Started with GC .68 and Cremo with a Shark platinum blade and knew immediately there was no going back.
Fast forward 11 months later and the kit has increased significantly, and you can see the need to pump the brakes. Posting pictures of all my shaving equipment. The three unscented soaps, gillette new type and badger brush were all gifted to me by a coworker. Bought three of the aftershaves for this years challenge as well as the Stirling synthetic brush. Now time to hunker down. After all I am a man and not a number. Be seeing you!

linty1

My wallet cries.

Managed to squeeze away for a shave after lunch. Its easier to go without the bowl, so lathered on my face. I may just skip the bowl going forward, even when I use soap pucks etc, we'll see. This tube of Gillette isn't going to last me too long though, its only got a few more shaves in it.

I forgot to get a photo, but looking at the brush dry, and I can visually tell a lot more ends have split compared to a month ago. It has about... 40 shaves or so? Finally starting to progress, I gave it a lot of towelling sessions when I first got it, its been quite a long journey breaking in this brush.

Still in.

Still in - day 9 of 365:

Red Rockwell 6S (R4 plate)
Personna "Lab Blue" (2nd use)
Progress Vulfix 660 Super Badger
D R Harris Sandalwood cream
Proraso Red aftershave

I opted for D R Harris' take on a Sandalwood scent today. The lather was excellent but I did get a bit of a tingle on the face when lathering up for the second pass which resulted in a some feedback from the aftershave.

Still in, 9 shaves, no temptations.

Soap: Barrister and Mann's Seville
Brush: Maggards 24mm
Razor: Karve Christopher Bradley Brass SB F
Blade: Astra SP
AS: PAA Atomic Age Bay Rum

I do have one temptation, to try other plates for the Karve. The F is plenty aggressive and smooth too, no problems with it. I'm just curious that's all.

There is a guy here in BST looking for a trade, an E for F. So, I could do it and not break any rules. However, a part of me wants to really use what I have.

For now, I will hold fast.

Notes to today’s shave:

Still in. Pondering if I need balm as exception or not. Potentially inspired - or influenced - by Prisoner @Alum Ladd to switch to a razor or not. Most likely not after consulting The Rabbit.

Shave Yahtzee combined the Indian Gillette 7o’clocks with the R41 today. I don’t think I shaved with this combination before. And it turned out to be smooth and comfortable. The end result was a nice and smooth BBS.

More details can be found here.

Great start of the week. Enjoy your shave!

Good Day Gents

PXL_20230108_191659411.jpg

GRUME, GRUYERE and (365 Shaves-every day shavers can join in till the end of January here).
Special edition- Muhle and MdC Mondays

Phoenix Ascension double OC
Astra SP (15)
Muhle XL STF
MdC Rose

I haven't used the Ascension since Shark Week last year. This aluminum CNC machined razor is designed and described as being "adjustable" depending on how tightly the handle is torqued with the head. I think the light weight aluminum decision was a good idea making it easier to shave with "no pressure". The razor is very efficient. I got a lot of feedback from the blade but there was no irritation and I easily had a DFS+.
The mild razor vs. more efficient razor debate is muddled in my thoughts. Both work if we have enough experience and good technique.

The past couple days I have been using "non-artesian" soaps. Today it was a pleasure to use MdC. This is a quality product. The Astra blade is holding up good. It is the one (new) I plan to use in the "One Blade in February Challenge" next month...here.

Please take care of yourself and each other. Onward.
