#16 v Rocket HD v #58 v Aristocrat Jr Agressiveness

Finally got around to giving my Aristocrat Junior a whirl.

This shaves me beautifully, in fact I think I'm getting a better shave from it than my ( previously ) goto #16 or Rocket HD ( all with an Astra SP )

It appears however to be a much more aggressive razor than the above mentioned.

Can someone confirm that this is the case, I'm just looking for confirmation that this isn't a consequence of the door replacement program .

Interesting. I feel that the #16 and the Aristocrat Jr. are about the same in terms of aggressiveness, with the 58 being perhaps a tad more aggressive. And I do mean the perhaps, as I'm not 100% certain.

I don't have a #58, but I do have a #16, Aristocrat Jr, and HD Rocket.
The #16 and Aristocrat Jr. shave very similarly. Any differences in feel to me are caused by the difference in the handles. The #16 feels a little more comfortable. I would rate aggression the same. They're both very slightly more aggressive to me than my HD.

I have used Astras in them in the past (not bad), Feathers (didn't seem to be a good match) and now use 7 O'Clock yellows.

mmm, thanks for the quick feedback gents. :thumbup1:

I feel I'm getting a better, cleaner shave but at the expense of some mild burn......

Perhaps I'd better look at my technique as I'm only 2 shaves in with it while I've had many with the #16..

And yes I agree the #16 is ever so slightly more agressive ( extra weight with the flat base ?!? ) than the HD, but I find the #58 pretty much the same as the HD. I can whip either of them around without even thinking.

I feel a lot of times that a good DE shave has a "psychic" component, and this factor may even trump relative gm weights or blade gaps measured in microns. It doesn't hurt the psyche to have the #16's rhodium plating blinging at you in the mirror...

Have you posted photos of your repaired Junior yet? How did it come out Fidjit? I am eager to hear if door replacement really is a possibility here.

As for the shaving experience -- I agree with Lando -- the rhodium experience trumps nickel and otherwise the #16 & Junior are very similar. Just that Junior is more of a daily razor or traveler, while the #16 is the indulgence and show piece. The experience of blade on skin and stubble remover -- seems very similar.

No kidding. Every time I shave with the #16 I feel as if I'm made of money.

Sadly, the feeling wears off when I finish my shave.

Did you find out if the AJ was definitely rhodium?

I have a Rocket HD and an AJ but, and I am a bit embarrassed to admit this, I have never used the AJ because it is still mint with the cardboard insert still under the doors. Bit sad, I know.

Excuse my ignorance, what is the difference, or benefits of rhodium over normal chrome? I just bought an old "Australian Model" Aristocrat the other day which apparently is rhodium plated and it has about the most worn chrome of any of my razors. Whatever the benefits are, it's not durability.

Tough call because I haven't shaved with them back to back with an identical blade but my rating would be (most agggressive to least aggressive).

#16
Aristocrat Junior
#58
Rocket HD

It is really only a subjective guestimate but that's the order I'd put them in.

I do believe a refinisher/replater determined that they were nickel plated.

And if you have a mint AJ, I'd not feel bad about not using it.

Yeppers. gotta agree with that. They sure are purdy !!!

The old door is on it's way as I type to Ontoman . He's going to dip it into the nickel remover and post the results.

Yeppers, only because I know it's repaired can I see it's been repaired, and that's how this thread starter...paranoia that I thought I might have done anything to it. The repair is definitely "in tolerance" based another razor I had that had been dropped and had a bent endcap and sticky door...... The AJ opens smoothly and evenly, gap even and straight.
