Item Description
Since The Netherlands has a fairly large community of Turkish people, it is quite easy to obtain products from Turkey. Especially in the densely populated areas in and around the major cities, supermarkets runned by Turkish migrants are quite common.
So it happened that I walked into one of those supermarkets the other day and found a tube of 'Arko Regular shaving cream' for only 0,75 euro cent. After returning home I had my first 'Arko shave' the next day and a pleasent one it was!
After opening the box the first thing I noticed was that the box was fairly large compared to the tube inside. The 100 g. tube contains 94 ml. of cream and the ingredient list is in English while the tube itself has two similar sides, one in English, one in Turkish (Arko Regular Normal Ciltler İçin Ekstra Nemlendiricili E Vitaminli ).
The smell of this cream is a bit on the 'cool' side but I cannot really compare it to any other product. The smell is distinct and enjoyable but nothing special.
Now for the shaving. I did a bit of cream on the bristles of my badger hair brush, about the size of a 2 euro cent coin (for those living in the EU). Face lathering went really well with this cream, as soon as I hit the 'sweet spot' cream to water ratio, my beard area was coated very well and the lather was nice and shiny like you would expect from far more expensive products. I did a three-pass shave and had more than enough lather left on my brush afterwards, I could easily have done two more passes.
The shaving itself was really smooth, the Arko cream provided a really good lubrication and shaving proved to be very easy. The Arko lubricating effect really surprised me in a positive way. There was no real 'Arko after effect' After I clensed my face with cold water, nothing really happened, there was no Proraso-like effect but my face did feel very clean and the Arko shaving cream did not leave a 'film' layer or a 'greasy' feeling. My skin felt hydrated and an after shave treatment was not really necessary.
In all 'Arko Regular shaving cream' is a cream that I would highly recommend as an every day shaving cream. You can leave the more expensive creams and soaps in the cupboard because Arko provides all that is needed for a great shave! At 0,75 euro cent a tube, it simply cannot be beaten.
