Arko Regular shaving cream

Item Description

Since The Netherlands has a fairly large community of Turkish people, it is quite easy to obtain products from Turkey. Especially in the densely populated areas in and around the major cities, supermarkets runned by Turkish migrants are quite common.

So it happened that I walked into one of those supermarkets the other day and found a tube of 'Arko Regular shaving cream' for only 0,75 euro cent. After returning home I had my first 'Arko shave' the next day and a pleasent one it was!

After opening the box the first thing I noticed was that the box was fairly large compared to the tube inside. The 100 g. tube contains 94 ml. of cream and the ingredient list is in English while the tube itself has two similar sides, one in English, one in Turkish (Arko Regular Normal Ciltler İçin Ekstra Nemlendiricili E Vitaminli ).

The smell of this cream is a bit on the 'cool' side but I cannot really compare it to any other product. The smell is distinct and enjoyable but nothing special.

Now for the shaving. I did a bit of cream on the bristles of my badger hair brush, about the size of a 2 euro cent coin (for those living in the EU). Face lathering went really well with this cream, as soon as I hit the 'sweet spot' cream to water ratio, my beard area was coated very well and the lather was nice and shiny like you would expect from far more expensive products. I did a three-pass shave and had more than enough lather left on my brush afterwards, I could easily have done two more passes.

The shaving itself was really smooth, the Arko cream provided a really good lubrication and shaving proved to be very easy. The Arko lubricating effect really surprised me in a positive way. There was no real 'Arko after effect' After I clensed my face with cold water, nothing really happened, there was no Proraso-like effect but my face did feel very clean and the Arko shaving cream did not leave a 'film' layer or a 'greasy' feeling. My skin felt hydrated and an after shave treatment was not really necessary.

In all 'Arko Regular shaving cream' is a cream that I would highly recommend as an every day shaving cream. You can leave the more expensive creams and soaps in the cupboard because Arko provides all that is needed for a great shave! At 0,75 euro cent a tube, it simply cannot be beaten.

Don't know why, but I didn't expect much from this one. Maybe b/c I hadn't heard about it at all yet thru B&B or elsewhere. However, it really amazes me. :thumbup1:

Love the scent, and I'm really impressed w. the latherability & moisturizing effects on my dry & sensitive skin. It creates a very impressive launch for a Derby blade to do its thing.

For me, Arko compares very well w. the 3 big T's. Unfortunately, in Toronto it's not amazingly cheap like elsewhere. I pay C$10/100 ml, while TOBS is $15/200 ml.

Not impressed w. the plastic tube packaging, and the fact that it's only 100 ml in size (more waste than if they went bigger).

Quality, old school, easy lather, great lather, great price. If everyone can get a product, this is the traditional shaving product. If expensive, this is a cartridge shaving product. ARKO :thumbup1:

This is NOT bad thing - I'm positive this is the same cream as German Nivea (or the other way around) - it's the same light pink, marbled stuff, the same consistency, the same scent, and from what I can remember, performs the same - very well:) I'm not saying I'm right, but I thought you guys might find this interesting, and I'm surely not the first person to notice it. 'Nice slick lather, still pretty thick, really pleasant scent that doesn't hang on (my thing:), and only $2.50 on ebay at Shave A Buck. 'Could moisturize more, but cushions well, and I like the aluminum tube, only not the plastic on the outside, because I don't know how that shakes down for recycling. I'd also like to see a smaller amount of ingredients, as some of them may well be unnecessary, as is so often the case. Don't get the wrong idea from me, I like this stuff:)
