What's new

Your take on this custom brush?

I don't like it. I don't like the rounded end which prevents it from standing upright; I don't like the color of the wood, and I find it overall disproportionate and displeasing to the eye.

Um, there's something disturbing about that brush.

It's definitely a unique handle and I like it oddly enough but then again I'm a sucker for all of the odd-ball shaving gear. I just don't like that the knot is only 1.75 inches out of the handle. Just seems useless as a shaving brush that way.

That's like 44mm... which is fine for some brushes (very soft hairs). I don't think the 08LE is much more than that.

The hairs just don't look great to me (honestly it looks like a badger/nylon mix even though he says 100% badger).

It looks like the brush head is a Kabuki brush. Not sure if I got the name right but it looks like a makeup brush.

I don't like the finish - "marine finish" sounds like spar varnish to me. I use CA glue - it is not effected in any way by repeated soaking in hot water. I'm going to experiment with oil, but I wouldn't sell one with oil until I use one for at least a year.

I kinda feel bad for the guy. After looking through his other items for sale, I've noticed that his other brushes are almost equally as tragic. His biggest problem is setting the knots too deep, but his choice of materials and proportional sensibilities leave much to be desired as well.

All that said, I couldn't make them.

That's not badger hair in this brush, looks like a make-up brush knot....way too soft for shaving brushes. Odd form, but someone may like it.

I saw those on ebay last night myself. I agree though that all of his brushes are a complete "turn off" yet sombody out there may like them for whatever reason. Not me though..

Some wood workers don't consider CA glue a proper finish for a wet environment, I've read that it can be brittle.
Spar varnish is a mixture of oils and resins that also has UV blocker to protect the finish in a harsh exterior environment.
Proper thinned and applied these resins penetrate into the surface of the and can be built up into a durable protective finish.
These type of finishes also have a long history, but their slow drying properties make for a finish that can take over a week fully dry enough to ship.
BTW. Interesting design.
Most wet shavers are traditionalist by nature, I don't use templates either but I like the classic designs.
I like my brushes to be comfortable in my hand and I don't like them to be too busy.
A busy brush has too many places for dried shaving cream to collect.
