Yardley still available anywhere?

Hey All,

Anyone know where English Yardley shave soap in a bowl is available from today? (or is it)? Recently smelled the Lavender and think its fantastic.

Quick search online and I couldnt find it anywhere!

Let me know and thanks!

I might be wrong, but I think that it's been out of production for several years (maybe more than a decade). It occasionally shows up in on-line auctions.

Their UK website doesn't show any shaving soap at all--just bath soap.

It's pretty sad when Yardley didn't have enough market share to stay in business :frown:

It's Yardley dangit... they should have survived in the shaving market!

Man...what a disappointment! I've seen pics of the stuff here from some of the graybeards...was hoping I could pick some up!

Agreed!

I mean how did this happen?

When I started wet shaving the first scented soap that came to mind was Yardley hand soap. The connection was made in my brain and I said surely Yardley must make shaving soap. The answer was yes, they did, but I was a decade or so too late. :frown:

It's worthwhile haunting ebay to find it. Talk about rich, tallowy goodness ... once you try it, you'll see that it blows anything else out of the water (including Penhaligon's). I have 3 pucks of the stuff!

Does anyone else remember the Aqua Velva victory? Maybe we should put together a petition for a limited production run of Yardley...

If you decide to petition Yardley's, you need to make sure you are completely clear that you want the original shaving soap.

The reason being, The United States still gets those bars of Yardley's with tallow, which many people feel strongly makes a better shaving soap ( I disagree, but I'm in the minority). In the UK, Yardley's offers only vegetable-based soap, mostly due to social pressures, such as concern over mad cow, animal products usage, etc.

It's odd. In order to get the original Yardley's bath soap, you have to order it from the US, even if you live in London. So if you want the tallow original, spell it out to them and make sure they understand you're a US resident. Our British friends will likely have to order it from us, should they ever make it again.

Amazing. But if we petition them, we are basically just asking them to re-make the shave soap right? I would imagine there would have to be a pretty strong petition to get this out of Yardley. Shave soaps and bath soaps differ. That means different processing techniques, different ingredients, possibly equipment etc etc.

I can't imagine they would do that for a small "niche" market...

Oh it's a long shot, but perhaps they don't know the market still exists? There is also a good chance they ducked out with the tallow thing. I'm not sure we could get them to make a tallow based soap. I'd settle for even a half approximation of the awesomeness that was Yardley. Old times be dammed, I want something rather than nothing :crying:.

I doubt if they would still even have the original formula. Probably long forgotten or tossed away. I got very lucky and bought a never used puck several months ago for around $9 at an antique store. I use it sparingly. It has a wonderful faint coconut scent. I've had both EF and BB of Penhaligons. Evbo is right. It beats them both.

Hey man,

PM me with what you find. I'll split the work for whatever we have to do. At least we can say we put one together!

Yardley was a very good soap. If you want to try something that is similar try the Art of Shaving Lavender shaving soap. IMHO the formulas are very similar and they produce nearly the same lather. The only significant differences to me are the scents and the AOS soap is a little slicker.

I don't think that Yardley will do a run, as it's been decades since they've made a shaving soap. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone that used to make it is either dead or senile. If Yardley ever agreed to do a shaving soap again they'd probably contract a current soap maker to produce it. And even then it wouldn't be the same. Modern processes and raw materials would be utilized and it would be a modern soap not what they used to make.

No one wants Yardley to start producing their shaving soap again more than me. Sadly, the reality is that this will probably never come to be. The world has changed and in some ways not for the better.

From what I've seen. DR Harris and Penhaligon's are good comps to AoS soap. So, I think I've experienced something on par with what you describe as I have both the Arlington and Blenheim respectively.

Still...ol Yardley would be nice to have in the collection!

It looks like we've got a two Chris team then

And you've already done most of the work and gotten the email address. Now we just need to get more people to send an email to Yardley and keep track of it all. What is the Yardley email address btw?

Chris

I haven't had that experiance with the AOS lavender. for me they have a lot less body, fluff, and cushion than the Yardley.

this could be coming from the vintage yardley being ...vintage.

the Valobra stick however is extremely similar... but i've also read comparisons of AOS and Valobra similarities which i don't see at all either.
