Wizamet SI info request

So I believe I’ve settled on Wizamet SI to be my top daily blade.

I was fortunate to have Wiskey gift me a variety pack to try and he has some older stock blades that were unique!

Does anyone know a good source for these?

Also, any timeline or explanation of this blade over the years?

I’ve reached out to a few vendors and they only have newer stock.

I bought mine from perfume-luxe on eBay. They appear to be legitimate.

Not sure of when but those blades did change, and you may want to do some research as to when, but the newer stock is definitely going to feel different then those.

Iridium -Super (PPI) Old vs. NEW

This is supposed to be the last comparison of old vs new Russian PPI blades. On the left we have a pack or double wrapped Iridium -Super. Bought in January 2010, which means manufactured in 2009 or earlier. On the right a pack manufactured 09/2022. Single wrapped of course. Again same...

actually just read the thread, seems the new blades officially came out in June 2020

The old style are the same as the Polsilver SI blades, the new style seems to have toned down the sharpness a tad (IMO) making for a sort of “meh” experience for those looking for that pre June 2020 blade

I stocked up on the Polsilvers years ago and am quite happy I did. They do come up for sale sometimes secondhand new old stock, so keep an eye out

Amazon has 2023 dated boxes.

I ended up ordering a few NOS polsilver and super iridium from a reputable dealer to give them a try.

I know the 2017 date code is the best blade so far but I can’t find a source.

Unfortunately, the wizamet blade was decimated post July 2020.
The sharpness, smoothness, longevity...all well below the level of prior dated Wizamet.

It's not at all the same blade.

Definitely understand the love for the blade.

I was just smart and lucky at the right time.

I stocked up on the Polsilvers years ago and am quite happy I did. They do come up for sale sometimes secondhand new old stock, so keep an eye out

So here is going to be my next phase of blade testing.

I’m going to put up the list once I’m done.

As of now #1 is my favorite blade from the last batch tested below:

The only other blade I have tried so far from the new batch is #3 and it was not great. The blade wasn’t glued, it didn’t look like the same blade, no super iridium stamp, and it didn’t shave close to as sharp as #1.

Interested to see how #1 compares to #2 with the newer date code of 2023.

All of the rest 4-9 are from razor emporium NOS and I thought it would be fun to try them out even if I can’t afford to stock them

Just a heads up ... I was reading posts about the counterfeit Polsilver blades and the pack you have shown as #3 has the "y" with a curled tail and the shape of the number "5" that are the indicators of being the fake blades.

Yeah I figured that out after they were the worst cutting blade I’ve ever tried. I looked up reviews and found multiple threads showing the tells. They are getting sent back to the seller.

I am also putting the gold perma-sharp supers into the mix.

I’m starting to enjoy testing blades now that I’m into the good ones!

#4 and #5 blades work very well for me. #6 is good and #8 brown box is okay in an aggressive razor when you want to tone it down a little, but keep it super smooth.

One of the Gillette 7 oclock greens which I have, is Super Stainless, made in Russia.

The other Gillette 7 o'clock green which I have, is Permasharp Stainless, made in India.

I'm currently trying to evaluate the Permasharp Stainless in a Gillette Fatboy set at 4.

I find this razor works amazingly in a Wolfman WR2. It’s good in other razors. But it’s great in the Wolf.

They used to be called Perma Sharp Super. Then they dropped the Super when they started laser printing the blades instead of ink printing. I do not find any difference between them at all.

Thank you for the info! The blade is really on the top of my list now. I’m using a Blackbird Lite Ti for all the blades.

I’m finding that as I narrow into the top blades I notice slight differences as I go back and forth.

It’s possible I’m going to settle on the perma-sharps!

Going to put my notes in here now! I ended up landing on the perms sharps to run for a while!

Going to save the NOS for special occasion shaves!

Glad I took time to really try out different blades.

Here’s the note section:

Razor testing

1. Wizamet 2017 date code

A lot of shaves. The favorite from round one testing. Sharp and smooth. Good after shave feel. Easy DFS.

8/4 - another good shave but not standing out over the perma sharp. Left more stubble with the same amount of passes. Less irritation.

1. Wizamet 2023 date code

1. Polsilver 2016 FAKE

Fake dull lots of stubble left USED ONCE AND RETURNED.

1. Iridium super Wizamet 5 pack hard case

1. Iridium super Wizamet 10 pack soft

7/27 - about as sharp as 1. Extremely smooth. No nicks. Aftershave feel excellent. No skin tightness or sensitivity. Very nice. Almost BBS with no touch up or excessive buffing. One hour later slight tightening no dry skin look.

7/28 - all same plus or minus negligible

7/29. - less sharp on chin area and tough spots. Flipped blade after WTG. Aftershave feel still smooth without irritation or excessive dry feeling/tightness.

7/30 - less sharp, not rough, no irritation, some stubble left. Ready to swap out the blade.

1. Polsilver Gold hard case

1. Rotbart

7/31 - wanted to love this blade since my grandparents are from Germany. First impressions very enjoyable to open and load up the blade. Not enjoyable to shave with. No roughness or feeling of irritation but it was tugging a lot, not cutting well and really having trouble cutting my chin area. I would have stopped right here if they weren’t NOS blades. The remainder of the shave was equally disappointing and left with a five o clock shadow (almost). Cross this one off my list. It felt noticeably less sharp than the super iridium I just unloaded after four shaves.

1. Polsilver Black/Gold pack soft

8/1 very smooth. Felt pretty sharp. Not quite BBS but pretty nice considering the comfort level. No irritation whatsoever or nicks. Aftershave feel very comfortable. Later in the morning no signs of tightness or dryness.

8/2 same as above. Not a close enough shave for my preference.

1. Iridium super 3 pack clamshell

1. Perma-Sharp

8/3 sharp shave. Pretty smooth. Aftershave feel okay.

8/5 New blade another good shave. Feels very sharp. Excess pressure not needed.

8/6 sharp and smooth good close shave.

8/7 same as

8/8 Flip blade. Good shave no complaints.

8/9 shaved in a power outage on and off had to get a flashlight still smoother than the fake polsilver.

8/10 last shave before a new blade. Starting to tug.

8/11 new blade great shave before church. Stock up on this blade. This is the new benchmark to exceed on testing.

8/12 50-50 black bird - slim adjustable. Blackbird preferred.

8/13 same



Turns out I can get the best shave without any irritation at all from the perma sharps.
