Winter Soaps

I'm still fairly new to wet shaving and have limited experience with soaps.

I started with the Col. Konks lime and was not terribly impressed. I moved onto Proraso and was pretty excited by it. I loved the colling menthol tinge in the summer, but the winter months are quickly moving into Ohio.

This brings me to ask, if it makes any difference in your mind, what is your favorite cold weather soap??

Thanks!

Cella. Leaves my face refreshed , it's protective and it is cheap. I also loooveee the smell. I also tend to have very dry skin and if I don't use a moisturizer especially in the winter my face gets flakey so take that for what it's worth. And I am sure people will chime in with the MWF. Never used it though.

if by winter soap, you mean one that is moisturizing, then i'd have to say provence sante. mild scent, mild soap, gentle and best of all, inexpensive!

mitchell's wool fat leaves my face feeling pretty moisturized, though i wouldn't worry about it too much and just go for a nice Musgo basalm.

Institut Karite should be a good one for the colder months. It's gentle on the skin and has good moisturisers in it. I like it year round though!

MWF and Cella, though I use them consistently throughout the year. Institut Karité is also quite moisturizing, though not as good as MWF or Cella.

In regards to a winter scent, anything almond, sandalwood, smokey, a touch of floral doesn't hurt. In regards to moisture, I don't have any soaps that are terribly drying, and I'm slowly converting to the "soap for the slick, milk for the moisture." Milk being interchangeable with balm.

I had a lovely shave with Tabac today. My nose craves it during the winter months - it goes really well.

I ended up ordering the Provence Sante group buy and MWF. I figured I may as well start a little collection!

Excellent choices. I much prefer the PS green tea fragrance. Verlaine is too powdery/floral/something. I highly recommend the PS green tea cologne and aftershave.

If you don't mind more fragrant soaps, head over to Mama Bear's holiday section.

I just bought a few of those and they smell absolutely wonderful! The ones I've tried are:
1) Christmas Rose
2) Sleigh Ride
3) Spiced Apple Cider

Plus, Mama Bear's soaps are some of the best I've used, especially for the price of $7.99/bar.

We really have winter where I live. I tend to use soaps that are woodsy/spicy scents, such as TGQ Leatherneck, Harris Marlborough, MB's Dragon's Blood and Spellbound Woods.

Some of the sweeter smelling soaps might work well also, such as Mama Bear's Diogenes Club or Rik's Gingerbread.
