What's new

wife possibly trashed my Parker 96R

So I went ahead and got a merkur progress, along with a straight and a strop while I was at it  Truth is, I'm not sure if it is really trashed. It seemed like the whole head might have been slightly bent. I only had the thing like a month and really liked it, but wanted to get an adjustable anyways. Since I just got back from a business trip that involved a ton of OT, I decided to splurge a little and got a straight at the same time.

I tossed it almost right away. I told my wife I wouldn't shave until the new items came in... however, after a day, I'm finding that I'm going slightly mad with my stubble. Two things then: 1- what's the best way to sanitize the thing... it went right in my waste bin, so I'll want to address that issue. 2- assuming it is salvageable in terms of hygiene, what shall I look at for defects of dropping? I'm guessing that if the blade seems to sit securely, and there's no visible damage, I might just try shaving with it. No harm, no foul eh?

Truth be told, and this is kind of horrible, but she was almost as devastated by the event as I was. Therefore, she had no qualms with me getting the new equipment. I kind of want the Parker to be usable afterall... just to rub it in, for no reason. I'm a bad person.

If it went in your own garbage and you have it fished out, I doubt that much more than a scrubbing with soap and water, or perhaps Scrubbing Bubbles or the like, would be necessary. If you wanted to be doubly safe, perhaps your barber could barbicide it. From what I understand you want to make sure the doors close evenly and securely, and that the safety bars are not bent such that the blade gap would be uneven. Shaving with it would be one way to find out, I guess, but think I would rather give it a very good visual inspection before I tried it! Hate the sight of my own blood!!!

You won't like this........

You are being abusive. She feels like crap, and then you say you won't shave until you get your Merkur, so every time she sees your stubble she will feel like crap.... AGAIN!! Dude, it's a $25.00 razor. You got your Progress, and if you want, get another Parker.

Please go to a drugstore ASAP and get a disposable razor for $1.00 and a dozen roses for your wife. :wink2:

+1. No kidding, be nice to your wife. At some point, she thought you were a nice enough dude that you were worth marrying...don't make her regret that decision. Grrrr....

lol. Yeah, that was pretty much my assessment. I will shave tonight. I've still got my last M3 cart, so I'll do that tonight while she's at work. Will think about the roses...

As for the 96R... Well, I fished it out. The head is uneven compared to the handle. The handle itself seems bent too. The butterfly opening/closing action seems a little stunted. I'm just going to let it go. I was looking forward to having it for years to come... will be sure to keep the progress far away from her thought ;)

I have to agree.

No offense but seriously dude, this is your wife. Sometimes it's about being a big person and accepting things happen. Your razor was a Parker....easy to replace, unlike some others that are one of a kind or supper hard to replace or with high sentimental value.

Its more about living together sometimes. I'm newly married and the wife and I do get into it sometimes but I always try to focus on what is really important. My father inlaw's advice was about picking your battles. Is it somethin you really wanna make a last stand on.

You just can't punish each other over small things, talk about it explain where you come from and get her at least 1 rose as a peace offering. Will you remember this in 10 years, 5 or even 1 yr?

end rant....

"So I went ahead and got a merkur progress, along with a straight and a strop while I was at it..."

Sounds more like she did him a favor.

Or she is really, really, really paying for her mistake. :frown:

I hope the OP is at the flower shop as I type this.

Well, I don't know the OP or his wife enough to make definite conclusions, so that is the best I could come up with.

OP, what did your wife do to the razor to cause such extensive damage, or are Parker razors just junk?

Meh no loss on the Parker, I would have picked up a new razor a long time ago...

I dunno, I make sure when someone does something retarded to give them a hard time...

If its an accident honestly, I get mad everyone does but I wouldn't have gone so far to get that much gear out of it I woulda ordered a new razor yes but hey.

Yup was gonna say the same thing.
I don't jump to conclusions because I don't know the real facts and details. I've messed around with my girlfriend and pseudo-guilt tripped her when she was sad for damaging something even though she was already sad about it. It's actually lightened the situation at times and it's not like I do it maliciously or try to hurt her, I'm just playing around a little bit. The rubbing it in is more to make light of it all and show that the situation isn't that important even if it mattered to me (there's a difference between something mattering to me and being important to me in my opinion). And then I go out and replace the item that was lost, damaged, etc. with more items.

It could be a case of this. Not saying it is. It could be him abusively yelling at a sensitive wife too. I just don't know, but I don't think it's appropriate to jump to a conclusion of "You're a mean husband who's abusive" based on three sentences he wrote. Take it slow and really think about it guys. You don't actually have that much information and the world isn't that simple. Most things are more complicated than they seem. Again, not saying the OP isn't being abusive or harsh, just saying I don't know and really, when you think hard about it, neither do you, so think twice about conclusions

Parker razors are absolute junk IMHO. She did you a favor!

Jeesch guys... First of all, it was all in jest. I was hoping that the statement was sufficiently outrageous enough to obviate a "j/k" or the like. But I guess if you don't know me, perhaps I could just be that much of an *******. Damn, that sucks to admit about myself :frown:

Yes, I did decide not to shave, but not to rub it in her face. Same thing with trying to salvage the parker. I just didn't want to shave with my m3. I'm getting new toys in a few days, so I thought I could avoid the old m3, but after a day I can't stand it any longer. So I could either see if the parker was salvageable, or go with the m3...

As for the quality of the parker, well I loved it. It just took a mighty spill onto a very hard surface. Perhaps another razor would've survived it... I'd rather not drop another one to find out. I'll be able to say a little more about its comparable quality once I give the progress a whirl, but for a beginner razor, I was more than happy with it. I would've gladly gone a year or so with just that before upgrading.
