Ok, I have a question. Aside from Springs and Stan the man, if you can without outing someone: What’s your favorite crazy post or thing that has happened that left you mods shaking your heads?
I'd have to say that one which comes to mind is a certain razor manufacturer who is in business but is no longer a member here.
He took selfie photos posted by mods here and photo shopped their faces onto screen grabs from gay porn sites he was familiar with and posted them on eBay and other sites.

I have to say I didn’t see that one coming. It goes show the only thing that is predictable is the unpredictable. 🤷‍♂️

I don’t have anything to question or criticize but do want to thank the mods for keeping this site a model of civility and safety.

The caliber of members makes this special. I received great support after losing my wife in 2017. On another occasion, I sold a Gem razor for $12 and it arrived damaged, so I refunded the amount through PayPal (friends and family for the refund; G&S for the sale). The buyer felt that this was unfair to me and sent 1/2 of the refund back. Small amount but a grand gesture.

A big thank you to all of the mods!

Great site and thanks for doing what you do!

Question - why is the lowest contributor amount $25 per year? Seems a little steep. Many other forums have much lower starting contributor costs. I think there would be a lot more contributors at $10 or $15 per year, but that's really only a guess on my part.

Thanks again!🙂
Hi,

Most of my technical discussion site, which this is one of, which is opposed to standard social media, have higher per-year subscription costs. Most in the $100/yr range.

We're all family here, and we've found that if we keep to our foundation of avoiding political involvement, it's quite easy to keep things that way.
There have been a few fellows who thought that it was a silly position to take, and that the topic was something that should be discussed.
Our position has been that first and foremost, there are other sites that people can use to discuss such topics, and the ones we are aware of are toxic cesspools of discontent.
Moreover - nothing, and I mean NOTHING anyone could ever say here on the topic will ever convince someone else that their position is wrong, or have one iota of influence to change the situation that exists in any way, shape or form.
We have our hands full just keeping folks from strangling each other over straight razor honing methods, let alone elections or world events!
Given how polarized some of those discussions are, it's the best strategy for maintaining the civil tone here that we all like. There are few, if any, places on-line where we see great discussions, like those we have here, that generally maintain a respectful tone as is our case.

I view political discussions on line like yard signs for candidates and issues. You will never convince anyone to change their opinion with signs and online political discussions. We have a few signs in our neighborhood and it’s totally unnecessary. I can tell you from knowing the neighbors where their political tendencies stand. I told my wife when out for a walk yard, signs are like a dog peeling on a tree. It marks territory and lets everyone know who they are.

It marks territory and lets everyone know who they are.

And this is what I like the most about the signs. Because it lets me know what side of the fence the neighbors are on, so I know what neighbors to avoid. Some people say that its awful how times have changed, they site examples of, back in the depression era, everybody knew your name, and everyone was neighborly with others.

Folks who make statements like that often forget, when everybody knows your name, and everybody spreads gossip around about you, things often end up in arguments and fights as well. My generation learned early on to be a recluse, the neighborly generation is over, forget all that.

Because guess what? When people don't know you, and you don't make a fuss, you stick to yourself, be a recluse, then you have no problems. The most people could gossip about you then, is how people rarely see you, that your the neighborhood recluse. Well, thats honestly not so bad, better then ending up in a neighborhood fight over a political opinion!

I wonder if it would be possible to have a history forum where posts like those from "Stan the Man", I found a dead badger, etc could all be in one place. Whenever I need a laugh, I look for them.

Having them in one spot could be of benefit to our newer members.

Ok - sticky thread up in the Barbershop.
If anyone thinks a thread ought to be on the list - drop any Mod a note with a link!

I am interested in the geography of the forum participants. How international is the forum and from which States are its participants?

This is a tough one to answer. While IP addresses can be checked on an individual basis, that would be a LOT of work.
Statistical info like that is available to the owners, but in general we here operating the site on a daily basis have no use for that data, and are not really interested in it.
I know from personal experience that we have members from virtually every single US state, throughout Europe, Eurasia, Oceana, Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, North America, and South America.
How about starting a thread in the Barbershop and ask folks to drop in and post their general location?
Some folks do put it in their profile, but others seem concerned for others to know their general location.

I shaved a fortune
Every once in a while, I wake up in the middle of the night here in Florida. If I can't get back to sleep, I check out B&B's new posts. It's nice that we have so many members in other time zones who post when I'm supposed to be taking my nightly nap.... As Phil said... from Europe, the UK.. SE Asia... Australia and New Zealand... all over the world.

And while I'm at it.... Thank you, Mods.... You all do a wonderful job here. Here on B&B, interest in wet shaving and quite a few other activities unite us... and you mods keep out the things that often polarize us in the "real world".... It just goes to show you, life is more pleasant when we gather around topics we all enjoy and let the other stuff fall by the wayside. That is just one man's opinion, of course... The B&B mantra applies... YMMV.
