Why Simpson?

Fellas-

As someone who has more than a handful Simpson brushes, what about the brand is conducive to owning a lot of them? I was thinking in my head that nobody goes out and thinks "I need 10 Shavemacs or 10 Rooneys", but people are more prone to collecting Simpsons... Obviously the quality and history play into this, but several other brands can claim this.

I think it has to do with how they name the brushes as well as the wide variety of handle styles and sizes. Makes it easier to justify buying a bunch since they are all so different with various 'personalities'. For some reason, buying merely a size larger or smaller for another brand just doesn't strike the same cord.

Any thoughts or am I misguided here?

Good question.

I think it is because the brushes have such different personalities. They really do perform differently! There are some very unique qualities in the lines.

Rooney nips at the idea, but Simpsons surprise me all the time. I like that.

Chubby to Emperor for example. So different, but I love both.

I attribute the allure of Simpson brushes to the legitimate history of the brand and the variety of styles which is unmatched. The company has had it's ups and downs, suffering through some shedding issues and such but the company and vendors have stood behind the brushes through thick and thin.

I have more simpsons than any other brush, (i have 3 of them), but i think its the large amount of great handle designs, the superb hair selection, and the character of the simpson brand which draws me to them. I love the simpsons 2-band brushes! Ive had many different brands of brushes, my simpsons are some of my faves. I look at them like pokemon, but i can shave with them

With any other brand you would be disappointed with the printing on the brush (sometimes a letter is half missed) or the sticker on it but Simpsons gets away with it; it just seems to add more character.

I really love the looks and they do have a wide variety.

Here's a question that has been lingering with me and is still on par with the subject, how's Simpson's quality compare to that of Rooney? You hear arguments on which is actually better. Again, why Simpsons over other brands?

It's hard for me to put a finger on it, but most Simpsons brushes have a certain overall appeal that many other brands don't. I'm not saying Simpsons are all-around superior brushes; I just mean the "feel" of a Simpsons brush, from the handle to the knot, has a quality about it that is both difficult to identify and addicting to experience.

I'd say YMMV, but I fear it really won't...

The only Simpsons brush I have is the Wee Scot. I love the little thing and it exudes quality. I may need to look into a Duke or Commander. :thumbup1:

I believe it is the variety of brushes, in shape and size, offered by Simpson makes them more collectible than brushes of other provenience. In my collection are three, not sure if I will get more, but there is only one I should have gotten, and that is the Eagle in Best that was a group buy here - I regret not to have ordered one.

I have never thought of it like this. That's a fantastic viewpoint. I am considering a Duke. Actually, i want my Duke! Maybe I'll go get it! Ha!

Interesting, too, that for all the variety of shapes and styles, Simpsons is one of the only brush lines (maybe the only one? Someone will correct me, I'm sure - Vulfix has some pewter brushes, IIRC, but that may be all the color variety for them), that sticks to a single handle color. I'd venture that that may have something to do with the collectible quality they have - a consistency that tends to bring the disparate shapes together.

Not that I need to justify my brush purchases, but I think that the great variety in handle styles, sizes and hair grades is what drew me to Simpson's in the first place. The fact that they are wonderful helps to keep me there :001_cool:

Simp-son. Simpson Brushes.
What kinda kids use Simpson brushes?
Fat kids, skinny kids, kids who climb on rocks.
Tough kids, sissy kids, even kids with chicken pox.
Love brushes, Simp-son Brushes.

Simpson brushes have a big fan base, and word of mouth advertisement is paramount in a niche hobby like wet shaving. Plus to the best of my knowledge there are no bad Simpson brushes. Other makers have holes in their line ups, or concentrate on just one style of brush. Where as Simpson has something for every taste.

I have 3 Simpson, 4 Rooney (2 Heritage & 2 Finest) and two Shavemac D01's. The Simpsons are just as nice even in their "vanilla" lines as the other makers are in their elite lines. The prices are similar between the three, but the fact that Simpson has brushes that nice in the normal line disarms you a little bit. I did not feel the pain of brush snootory while purchasing up my Chubby 3, but I did for the Rooney Finest, even though they were about the same price.

In the end I think I like using my Shavemacs and Rooeny Heritages better, but for some odd reason I'm more attached to my Chubbys.

For me it is their uniqueness/quality, you may compare Shavemac/SV/Thaters and they look similar. But Simpsons are unique and special in their own way.

The Simpson brushes just have personality. Milk Churns, Keyholes, Tulips, Eagles, you name it. You look at it and by and large, it says "I'm unique."
