Why no love for the wedge?

Dovo and TI always make full hollow, or maybe the occasional half hollow razor, but why don't they make any wedges?

I recently got a wedge from a member here, and I had my first shave with it today.

WOW. Now I understand what a smooth shave means. I felt like I was taking the back end of a knife and sliding it across my face. I didn't know if I was cutting anything, but I was. Stropping was a little hard since I didn't have any audio cues...

I was trying to explain this to THubbard76 last week. I have a hard time bringing myself to use a hollow razor since I've gotten comfortable with my wedge. So smooth. It's as though Hank Mobley and Sarah Vaughn had a love affair and the product of that union was a straight razor.

I just can't stop laughing . For classical music lovers it could be something like Otto Klemperer and someone else. Yeah, wedges are nice but I tend to like full hollows more. I don't know why they aren't produced by big companies anymore. Only Thiers Issard is making their new "Le Grelot like" 1/4 to 1/2 hollow razors.

I love my wedge. It does not give me quite the "refined" (for lack of better words) shave as my full hollows, but it is super smooth and comfortable. I just have to be a bit more careful with the pressure because of its extra weight.

I think they would be right up my alley, but whenever I see them on ebay they seem to go for over $150 most of the time.

Wedge grinds can be a pain to hone but depending how bad the hone wear it can be brutal. But they are some superior shavers and feel good with the weight because you don't have to use much or any pressure during your shave.

One of my best razors is the best of both worlds; it's a wedge frameback:biggrin1:

I have lots of love for the wedge. If it wasn't for trying a wedge, I wouldn't be a straight shavers. I just didn't like any of the hollows when I first started but a wedge felt comfortable in my hand (good extra weight) and it gave and effortless shave. I still have the wedge that got me going. It's a Nesset 11/16from Solingen.
I don't know why none of the current straight manufacturers make a wedge. I'd certainly buy one, or two.

The problem I have with wedges is that they tend to cut a facial blemish I have ( not a mole but a "growth" of some sort ) so that is why I prefer the hollow ground ones. I have 2 wedges and they do shave very well but just have to be careful.

I find that I get better shaves out of full hollow. I do have a few wedges and they give me good shaves too. Full hollow are easier to work with for me.

I also like my wedge but it does take a little getting used to. I have also learnt the hard way that you have to take extra care with anatomical features that may get in its way such as ears and nose because the smooth glide and the extra weight makes it slightly harder to stop before it is too late.

Hear this man out, he made a very good point right there!

I love me some huge, stiff wedges!
Quite nothing like the feeling of a solid, full inch slab of steel against your throat.

I use a wedge blade most of the time. Definitely my favorite blades but as everyone says they can be a pain to hone. This morning's blade literally took many hours to hone but the shave was excellent.

I'm glad to see more people here like wedges. I don't know why no one makes them any more.

There was this huge patch of hair that I couldn't get with my old razor, but my wedge just mowed it down. What a difference the grind makes! Now I see why people with thicker beards prefer stiffer grinds. :001_tt1:

There's actually a wedge frameback on the BST right now, but I can't spare $100 for it at the moment. Hopefully it'll still be there in a few months...

I very much prefer the feedback of a full hollow. Wedges are fun every once in a while but I'd never make one my daily shaver.
