What's new

Why did this brush go so high?

I think it's because somebody really wanted to try out that style...I've picked up a brush or two in the past where I've paid more just because it was a style/brush that I was interested in restoring and I did not want to keep looking or waiting for another one to pop up. I saw this identical one sell a while ago for about half what this one went for :)

Looks like it was labeled for a porn milestone.100XXX

the XXX was one of the reasons I was so attracted to this handle... because I'm a porn star.

Ok actually I'm not, but I thought it was pretty funny so I wanted it!!

One of the reasons I was tempted...but I refuse to be drawn into a bidding war...looked at the bidding history...and decided I will let this one go...too many other neglected brushes available for restoring :)

Plus...I restore knots so I can play with various lofts and knot qualities to see what I like best...cheaper than buying the high end manufacturer versions and then finding you don't like the loft or the density :)

I've looked at (and bid on and own) lots of vintage brushes & many Ever-Readys - I've never seen an __xxx and I've not seen that shape.

It's different & it's pretty!

(And $27 isn't really so high - I suspect that one is going to be a beautiful restore... so for around $50 someone is going to have a really really distinctive & unique brush!)

Agreed...it's kind of hard to put a value on something that you really want :)

I should know...my last bay acquisition was a classic example!!! I knew I was paying more than the darn handle was worth but I really wanted to restore one...and well...the rest is history :)

Joe...have only recently begun restoring brushes...I find it so darn soothing and it comes with the added advantage of allowing me to see what I like before jumping into a new brush purchase!

Someday my restores will actually start looking like yours...got to buy more handles and practice ;)

I bought this brush .It was a steal for the price .A XXX is the highest quality brush E R ever put out. This is a solid bakelite handel not hollow .It is very heavy and high quality.Cheers Rocket

Ah got it you had me confused. I thought you meant you actually restored the original knots. I was intrigued because if that could be done it may be interesting. As far as your work on Brush restores go though man you are being far too modest. I have seen them and you do a fantastic job. I am certainly no professional.

I am going to put a new knot in it .I will use a 22mm TGN Super Fan or a 24
B-B Premium knot .It will go in to the growing collection of vintage brushes.
Current count 63.I will stop at the century mark.AHH may be not.
Cheers Rocket
