What's new

Why did I wait?!

I won a 4/8 barber notch straight by Union Cutlery Co about 3 months ago, maybe more. The blade was black streaked and looked like heavy patina. I threw it in my box of blades for another day thinking it would take some work to clean up to shave ready.

Well, I was honing today and wiped the blade down with an alcohol rag to find it was actually dust loaded oil, and came almost mirror clean with a light scrubbing. A quick bevel set on my Chosera 1k, followed by a straightforward honing on my La Verte coticule and WOW WHAT A SHAVE!

Why did I wait so long before honing this little beauty?!

So, what have you let sit too long for no real reason?

(sorry about the lousy picture)

Phil

It's always nice to get a gem that someone actually had the concern for to look after 50, maybe 100 years ago and realize you get to reap the rewards of that care.

I picked up a dublduck Satinwedge (with a "w", I've got a Satinedge as well) that's been calling my name for a restore. A 9.00 "beater" at an antique store.

Then I've got that 8/8 "Rapsodia" doble temple i haven't touched in a year, still awaiting restore.

Picked up a Hess stainless blade in sorta-busted scales a couple months back I haven't honed up yet. Maybe that will be my next bevel-on-up home job and get it in rotation.

Then a bunch of Oklahoma-stamped razors I'm looking to make an unmatched 7-day themed set out of.

And a fine old Sheffield wedge that I think I'll get to after the bowling ball razor. I still haven't chosen a blade for that one yet, as I'm still working on an Ern in kingwood for a friend at work.

Lotsa fun to come, just at a snails pace due to work and family. My AD's have cooled off for the most part, tho a coti is bound to be ordered at some point in the next couple months.
