Which razor would you use next?

I've enjoyed using the D-3 Superspeed. It's apparent to me why these razors were so popular for so long. However, after a quick fling with RAD, there's a bunch of razors looking longingly over at the sink each day for their turn.

Would love to hear your recommendations. I'm comfortable with the shaves the Superspeed is giving. A little more aggressiveness would be ok too. I've narrowed the list to:

  • 40's Superspeed
  • Fat Boy
  • Slim
  • Shick Krona

Which one would you pick?

I would go with the Slim first, maybe set to 3. But try them all in turn, a day at a time. I would use the same blade rinsed in hot water and just wipe clean the razor you just used so it's ready for next time. Enjoy

I would look around for an auction lot of razors. You can find them with all kinds of diff razors to try. A typical lot might include adjustables, techs, old types, and maybe even some fun oddballs. You can often pick them up for about $5 per razor. Very little risk there. If you don't like some of them, you shouldn't have any problem getting your money back selling them individually.

4 razors, no problem. Just pick one (random is fine, flip a coin even!). As Len said, try one each day until you've tried them all. Rinse, repeat.

I would try them all eventually, but I would give the Schick Krona a go. In my opinion an underrated TTO DE. It's got a nice lower profile head, even lower that the Black Handle SS and gives a great shave also. Give it a go I think you will like it.

I would say fatboy or slim. The fatboy is a little more substantial, the slim has a thinner head which I think makes it more maneuverable. I don't think the other two you've listed will give you any better shave than your current SS.

Give the fat boy a spin. It's heavier than the ss, which gives a different feel, and you can tinker with the adjustment to find what setting works best.

The 40's Super Speed is unlikely to be more aggressive, so I would go with one of the adjustables. On the other hand, if you like the Super Speeds, why not try a Red Tip?

You could also get a Super Adjustable and they usually cost less than the slims or fatboys.

Give the Fatboy a spin. I cut my teeth (and beard) in DE shaving with one. It's substantial, the handle feels great and it gives me a great shave. I've bought others, but the Fatboy will always be in my rotation.
