Best mild adjustable razor?

May I suggest a razor that hasn't been mentioned as of yet. I would throw the Parker Variant OC version in the ring as well. Perhaps it's not the highest quality of alloy used in its overall construction & is a near identical offshoot to the Merkur Progress but, the shave that this razor provides is superb. It is both supremely easy on the skin with an efficiency at work that rivals many of the best adjustables out there. And with the added benefit of being very affordable to the masses, it deserves consideration imho.

If you still have the Slim, your quest is over.

The best adjustable razor ever made is the Gillette SuperAdjustable 109, particularly the post-‘77 Black Beauty. Nice head-heavy balance, the widest range of adjustability of all the Gillettes (2 settings closer than Slim or Fatboy). Built like a tank, not as heavy as the Slim and much less expensive than the Fatboy. I got my mint condition ‘78 model for $5. Best DE in my den.

My experience with adjustables is limited to the Gillette Slim and the Rockwell 6C. The Slim was one of the first vintage razors that I acquired, and I still use it regularly. I get good results with any of the settings, but typically I set it somewhere between 3 and 7. I used the 6C for maybe a year before I decided it needed to find a new home because I seldom used it on anything but the highest setting. I also found switching the base plates to be a bit of a hassle (changing settings is so much easier on the Slim).

asking for this help is not always going to be useful in the end. EVERYONE is going to be helpful and try to give you their honest opinion. But because you cant actually TEST their razor and blades, its not much use sadly.

For example, the Slim it touted by a good number of respondents as the razor you should keep using. It is a good razor, but the two I have personal experience with, each was a seperate year date, they did not shave the same to each other. nor did they like the same blade. They were "ok" with X blade, younger one liked E blade, while teh older one made E blade feel like shaving with a piece of tin can.

I think there could be razor pass arounds here now and then. Perhaps inquire about getting into one of those and just enjoy the razor you have now.
