Which Razor to Try Next? From Slim Adjustable and L6.

Been shaving with DE's for a year now. Go back and forth between a Lord L6 and a '68 Gillette Slim Adjustable (usually around 4). Favorite blade with each is a Feather.

The Lord is a good razor, predictable shave, very mild and forgiving. Doesn't take down a lot of whisker each pass so typically need three passes, WTG, XTG, ATG plus re-touching the neck. Buffing gets a BBS shave when it needs to be super close. I don't mind it, but I don't like spending 10 minutes shaving in the morning and having to re-touch all over the place.

On the other end, the Slim Adjustable exposes a little more blade at a flatter angle, so it seems to take down the whiskers quickly, although if you aren't careful you can get nipped or some irritation. I can get away with two passes, WTG and either XTG or ATG depending on how the first pass went. Buffing is a no-no for me with this one, just too much irritation.

Ideally I'd like a razor that gives a close shave like the Slim but maybe isn't so picky about the shaving angle and if I could do some buffing to get BBS when the mood strikes, that would be great. Thought about maybe open combs, don't know if that makes a difference. I do like something with some weight to it, but don't really want to spend a ton of money either.

Any ideas?

You might really enjoy a Merkur Futur. Arguably one of the better modern DE's, and being adjustable, can be aggressive or mild. They can be found on the BST for a great bargain. I have never had a bad shave from mine. I acquired the satin one in a trade and have almost bought a chrome one on several occasions. I usually only use a 2-pass shave with my razors and this one is one of favorites.

Open Comb all the way. Try the 1930's Gillette NEW. Available on the Bay for a reasonable price if you are patient. I think I saw some good ones on BST.

Might not be a typical recommendation, but I think those common german travel razors in the little clamshells with the old type clone heads you can get for $10-15 are some of the most pleasant razors to shave with.

I had been eyeing NEWs before I posted, they seem to be the rage right now!

Considering my biggest trouble spots are on my neck (which prompted me to go from a Mach 3 to try electric shavers both foil and rotary then finally to DE), open comb sounds like the right next choice.

What about a Merkur 15C? Any other newer razor recommendations?
