Which blade for Feather AS-D2 for a smooth shave

I've used two Feather blades now with the Feather AS-D2 and they are very smooth. My other blades are the Astra's and Shark's, not as smooth and takes too much effort to get a good shave. What blades can I use with the D2 which is as smooth as the Feather but doesn't cost as much?

Blade and razor combo is so subjective to the individual shaver. Have you thought about purchasing a blade sampler pack?

I've already gone thru a sampler pack and settled on the Astra and Sharks but that was before I purchase the AS-D2. This razor seems to need a sharper blades. I really like the Feather blades on it but just wondering if there are other alternatives. I do agree it's a YMMV thing when it comes to shaving products.

You must only ever use a Feather blade with a Feather razor. The problem with trying anything else is that once you try another blade, then you'll want to try another, and another, and another, and ... well you probably know how that goes.

In my AS-D2 I use the Feather blade exclusively, but would only go down to a Wilkinson Sword if I happened to be out (which will NEVER HAPPEN). :001_tt2:

The Feather is SO MILD, that it really should be loaded with a Feather blade. That's my opinion.

Sounds like you spent so much on your razor that you can't afford the blades now... :scared: Oh well, using Feather blades is still much cheaper than using cartridges, isn't it.
Else, what jwilock and Z blade have said. By any means get the Feathers if you like them, but don't buy them one by one. At $30 per pack of 100 including shipping they certainly do not qualify for the cheapest blade but after all it's not that much either.

Broken glass. I am not a fan of the Feather stainless. To work at all, I think it needs the sharpest blade you can possibly find. The only thing sharper than a Feather would be a shard of broken glass.

I normally use a Feather blade in my ASD2 - but now I have finally worked out the steeper angle I also get a really good BBS shave with Personna Med Preps and Gillette 7 Yellow and I just tried a Polsilver SI and it was excellent

I had the same issue with my ADD2, Feather+Feather blade combo is the best but the most costly, i found Astra SP as an alternative plus the Silverblue and Gillette 7o'clock yellow packaging to be the only other combination that didn't have me patching myself up or welling up in tears from the tearing.

I like the Astra's and SilverBlue the most effective to date after going through a huge sample pack, which I haven't finished.
worse experience personally was Derby and D2

In my Feather AS-D2 I have used Feather, Personna Super (blue), Gillette 7 O'clock yellows, and Astra SPs. All have worked well and given a smooth shave. I guess I am one of the lucky that does not, supposedly, need a chainsaw to cut hair off my face. A good thing, because getting under my nose with my Stihl MS460 would be tricky.

... getting under my nose with my Stihl MS460 would be tricky.
I only have a MS361 but I would never get anywhere near the chain (manually sharpened of course) with my face :scared:.
What can cut through a 3 ft ash tree can easily cut your head off, not only your nose.

And more to the topic: I can't get a close enough shave with my Feather razor, no matter which blade. 5 o'clock shadow at 2pm latest

Great saw :) I run our ms460magnum with an 18" bar and + 1 sprocket for firewood. Crazy fast chain speed!

Travis.

I've been cut quite raw with feather blades until I tried it in a AS-D2 feather razor. It's a perfect compliment of two high tech components. Personally, I only use the feather blades in it. When I blade Hop I use another razor. To each their own, eh?

Hi Canuck,

Yes the feather blades in the AS-D2 are fantastic. I have also had great success with..

- Gillette Yellows
- Polsilver SI
- Perma sharps

Have an order of Gillette silver blues on the way, so will report back.

Generally though the Feather AS loves a sharp blade and if given one is 100% rewarding.

My wallet cries.
I'll put in another vote for the Astra SPs, also the Gillette 7oclock blues seem to work well. Treet classics didnt work for me for this razor.

In my experience there are several blades that are "nearly" as sharp as the Feathers, but much more forgiving, in my opinion. In no specific order:

Polisilver SI
Gillette Silver Blue
Gillette Black
Gillette Yellow
Israeli Crystals

Of these I actually think the Israeli Crystals are the sharpest, but not the smoothest. Next is GSB and Polisilver. I lean to the GSB just because I know it so well, but the SI may be every bit it's equal as I get more shaves under my belt with them. I would recommend the Gillette's in the dark blue pack as they were very very sharp, but seem very difficult to find now. The Gillette Yellow's and Blacks seem equally sharp to me, but I don't have enough shaves with them either to make a solid recommendation.

Get a tuck or two of the SI's and the GSB. See if you like them. You'll only be out $5 between both packs.

This week has been some amazing shaves with the GSB and POLS. My rotation now consists of these two and feathers. Feathers when I am in a hurry for one pass WTG. The other two are able to do a 3 pass, one WTG and two ATG for a truly BBS shave all over on the account of the direction of my hair growth.

All of the following blades have provided superb shaves with myFeather AS-D2:

Feather Hi-Stainless
Perma-Sharp Super
Gillette 7 O'Clock Black
Gillette 7 O'Clock Blue
Personna Med
Personna Lab
Iridium Super
Polsilver Super Iridium
