Which DE Razor Blades......

I have a few mid-Aggressive razors, (and not a coarse beard growth) I find a get a razor rash when using a blade like a Feather, as it's too rough on my face.
If you wanted to tone down the blade, what razor blades would you recommend? Thanks!

I always find the Gillette 7 o'clock green to be a smooth, friendly blade for me, but unfortunately not sharp enough for my use. Worth a try.

I wish I had magic power to reply to you post with the perfect Blade for you. But your honestly in a dilemma of trail, error, and hoping to find your Grail Blade.

Might help is you clarify the Razor you mention, Names & Models, you said your are "I have a few mid-Aggressive razors, (and not a coarse beard growth)"

yes, but which would you recommend?
These Double Edge razors below are the ones I regulargly use and do suggest:

- RazoRock Game Changer 68P (n°1 pick)
- Mühle R89
- Edwin Jagger DE89
- Vintage Gillette Tech post-war

Any of the above gives me superb shaves. And I always combine them with ninja sharp blades. My top blades are:

- Feather New Hi-Stainless
- Gillette Perma-Sharp
- Gillette Nacet
- Gillette Silver Blue

Great question. I have a Karve Brass Christopher Bradley razor, an Aylsworth Kopparkant
Razor, with the Aylsworth SS Apex on it's way, Razorocks with .76 & .84 plates, Gillette FatBoy and a Slim.

Just what Marco said.
I concur with all his choices, razors and blades. :thumbup1:

Why not get a sample pack and try a few different blades? If you have not already done so then consider entering the monthly blade PIF for new members.

I'm giving the Sunekos are go with all my razors and I have to say they're really good. They're comparable to my regular blades which are Wizamets, Feathers and Kai but forgiving like the Astras. The main difference is that the Suneko is dirt cheap. I won't spoil it for you, just go find out how much a 100-pack costs :eek2:

Another ‘mild/moderate’ razor fan here!

That said, recognizing YMMV (especially with blades), here is my ‘top-tier’ (in no particular order):
Wizamet SI (or Polsilver)
Personna lab (or med prep)
Personna red
GSB
Astra SP
Nacet

But nothing beats trying blades for yourself!!

Well I do not chase BBS, most Blades work for me, not lucky, just shave to remove beard.

Like I said I shave daily, do 1 pass, not case perfect shave.

If I chased BBS I would nick, cut, and bleed.

My skin is old, I am old, beard is salt n pepper. Plus when I get hurt or cut. Healing is slow.

As others have suggested:

a. Change your razor, I use a Gillette Tech with a short handle, no rash, no cuts, perfect shave irrespective of the blade, if I use a Parker razor, described by others as a Medium/Aggressive, I get cuts and rashes.

b. Check your technique.

1. The way that you shave is much more relevant than what you buy, within reason

2. Do not make the mistake of thinking that the more expensive the product or item then the better it is, for you.

Everyone on here has their own way of shaving, it works for them.

The basic advice could be something in the order of

Hydrate your stubble with a hot soapy wash or hot moist towels, first step in the process.

Make a lather using a shaving cream or soap. For many this means using a shaving bowl and a shaving brush. Personally, I use a small amount of product in the bottom of the what used to be an earthenware bowl and whisk up a lather with a brush until all the air bubbles have disappeared. You only need a small amount of product, about the size of a small coin.

Apply the lather to the skin, cover the area as if you are painting a wall! Don’t rinse the brush just yet.

Shave with the grain and let the blade do the work, minimal pressure, hold the razor at about a 45 degree angle and use short strokes, usually down the face. Rinse with hot water and apply lather again with that lathered brush and then shave in the opposite direction.

With time, you will vary this technique to suit yourself.

Rinse thoroughly, some prefer a cold water rinse and then dab dry. With regards to Post shave applications, opinions vary. I don’t use aftershave just a moisturiser, almost anything.

I would add BiC blades to this list, especially if you want to give Feathers a break and don’t want to buy Russian blades at the moment. Some claim that their performance varies between razors; but they work extremely well in all my razors.
You could almost think of BiC blades as long-life Feathers, but just a tad milder.

Regarding Marco’s suggestion of the Mühle R89, if you ever should feel like, it is easy and inexpensive to “trade up” to a R41 if you buy the R41 head separately.

The R41 has been around for a while and even if I use a different razor (Tatara Nodachi Ti) now, it is still an excellent piece of equipment that can give close and comfortable shaves.

Of course, you could do the same with a Tatara Nodachi. :001_cool:

And one thing I always think of: Use the lightest pressure possible, if you think you use light pressure, try a bit lighter on the next shave.

Edwin Jagger D89 is a classic, mild, and won't break the bank. If you don't mind buying on AliExpress, look for the DSCosmetic T7-SE for many of the same characteristics.

As far as mild razor blades, look at Astra SP and the Dorco Titan. I also enjoy the FlyDear Super Platinum - it's dirt cheap when you buy it on sale from AliExpress.
