Where was everybody on this one?

High shipping cost probably put many buyers off. I've had too many eBay sellers list $10+ Priority shipping. Ignore me when I ask if they can ship First Class for a discount and win only to receive the $1 shipped First class package and realize why they didn't reply.

$1 for a red tip!

I wonder how much postage would have been internationally?!!?

Wasn't listed as an option.

Here is a hint for you US sellers. If you are prepared to sell to foreign people your market more than doubles. And, potentially, your selling price. I'm just saying. :sneaky2:

So true. And the same applies to the UK, where some British made Gillettes have sold for much less than they could have, no, should have, because of domestic shipping only. In many cases, I would have been prepared pay more if they shipped to Scandinavia. :001_rolle

A Red Tip for $1 :w00t:

I missed it :(

No, that was a Red Tip for $10.

While I would certainly pay $10 for one in good condition, the lack of pictures (couldn't see either side of the head or inside the doors) and BS attitude from the seller ("what you see is what you get") turned me off. He obviously has something to hide. :thumbdown

Charging $9 for postage that only costs under $5 (including the free USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate box) means this guy sells shipping, not razors!

With a few good pictures (no extra cost to list between one and twelve) and honest description, that razor should have sold for between $15 and $20 (plus honest shipping) assuming good condition.

But, if the head plating is worn and the base plate is pitted, the 99-cent selling price might be its true worth. I wasn't willing to pay $9 to find out!

For the buyer, I hope this one turns out to be a good-quality razor offered by a greedy shipper . . . in which case it is a great deal. :thumbup1:

+1 - I saw it and passed for the same reasons you mention.:thumbup1:

I find the winning price depends on a lot of factors besides the condition of the product itself:
  • Shipping costs — as everyone has mentioned. A high price here undermines trust in the seller.
  • Lack of pictures.
  • Lack of description, and one that includes the phrase "what you see is what you get."
  • Lack of key words in the title. I saw a Slim go for a couple dollars, because it didn't have the word "razor" anywhere in its description! I tend to look for the words Gillette, razor, vintage, super speed, safety, etc. If this ad had the title "Vintage Gillette Super Speed Red Tip Razor" it probably would have gone for $12 + $9 (s/h), perhaps even with everything else as it is. Add some pictures and knock off $4 from the shipping, and probably goes for $24 + $5.
This ad a perfect example of how not to sell something.

For me, shipping comes up as $6.55. Not great, but for $7.55 shipped, that razor would've been a bargain.

. . . or a real disappointment if the top turned out to be scratched, the inside pitted, and the bottom of the base plate green from brassing . . .

Alex has it right . . . $11 from someone here on BST is the better deal! :thumbup1:
