What's new

What's your opinion on this razor?

First off, my apologies if this is not permitted. I came across this ebay auction and they're offering a free DE razor when you purchase 100 Derby blades. I know the razor isn't a Merkur, but would you make the purchase just to receive the razor? I already have a Merkur 38c, so this would not be my primary razor...heck, maybe a gift for someone.

I don't think you are allowed to link to an active ebay sale. I personally would just want some Derby blades instead of whatever razor that may be.

You should edit the link away, just because linking to live auctions is a no-no here as it could tip off potential buyers to a sale another member was hoping to purchase under the radar. We don't want to ruin a member's potential purchase or push the prices up on (already overpriced) online auctions. No worries though, as you're new and don't know the rules and such :001_smile

Interestingly, I don't recognize that DE razor. If anyone gets to see it before it's removed...any ideas what that thing is?

It's a buy-it-now, not an auction, so I think it's ok to post the link.

However, the vendor says "buy 4, get safety razor free" so it sounds like you have to buy 400 blades. I hope you like Derby

Oh, and it looks like a Ming Shi razor. Haven't tried them but they don't get rave reviews.

If they are giving it away it is probably a piece of junk. I would rather have any vintage Gillette than that. And what are you going to do with 400 Derby blades?

Yup. You are right on all counts. It is one of those cheap trashy Ming Shis.

Thanks guys. I removed the link. I figured the razor couldn't be worthy if it was free!

Weren't Goodwill razors originally give-aways?
The logic fails.

But it's almost certainly a *chinese* give-away, so it's all good.

Yup. The Goodwill razors were produced in 1931 and most were part of a promotion in which a free razor was given with the purchase of ten NEW Gillette Blades. The razors were made using surplus Old Type handles, and retooled NEW and Old Type caps and guards.
