What's up with these scales?(w/ pic)

What's up with these scales?
This arrived today, a recent purchase from our B/S/T, a TI #69 frameback, and the scales look like they've been melted; crooked and warped, and way thinner on one side than the other. Is this typical of TI? or have they maybe been re-done? (poorly)
I think I just bought a $100 pig in a poke.

You purchased that from B&B's B/S/T? Did the seller disclose that amount of warpage? If not, I'd consider asking for at least a partial refund.

Hmmm. Scales do look fishy. See how it plays out with the seller. I don't know the policy around here, but if you've exhausted that, maybe you should contact one of the mods. Good luck.

Thanks, I've dropped the seller a PM. Unfortunately, I fear that I failed to ask the appropriate questions; buyer beware and all...
On the bright side, I was looking for more blades to re-scale, just not in that price range! this one will need something special...

This is just plain not right.

Do contact the seller and either arrange to return it or have him adjust the price so that it is equitable.

That's not how we do things here, caveat emptor has a different meaning here.

If you can't work things out with the seller do 2 things;
1. Contact the mods
2. PM me and I will refund your purchase price and you can keep the razor.

I'm embarrased as a community by this.

Yeah, if that wasn't disclosed in the sale post, that is a direct violation of the guidelines of the B/S/T.
I hope that the seller makes it right. Keep us updated, and if he refuses to cooperate, don't hesitate to contact a Moderator or post about your negative experience with him.

Phil, I take my hat off to you. You are a shining example of the gentlemanly conduct that is so prevalent here on B&B, and I hope the seller takes the necessary steps to rectify this situation.

I got one a while back that just barely closed off-center. No warping, therefore an easy enough fix. I paid next to nothing for it and the seller was extremely apologetic. Admitted to knowing little about straights and not noticing this flaw.
I was a little bummed that this was going to now require more work, but can understand how it slipped through the cracks in hands of unexperienced user.

THIS on the other hand....you could spot that a mile away.

- Is this person a regular seller on BST?

- Did you not look at or see pics of the razor prior to shipping? Most people will want to see extra pics of a razor they drop $100 on. And, most any seller will oblige and send all sorts of photos prior to closing the deal.

That's discouraging. Being a community forum I don't think asking if the scales are warped is in the top of my questions to ask.

On a side note, I think you handled this well not naming anyone or using the thread to where it was sold from. Leaves plenty of room to vent and to let the seller make it right.

And amazing gesture from Phil:001_cool:

I think that just for the nature of the BST, the seller should disclose something think this in "Writing and Photos"

The buyer shouldn't have to ask.

$100 is a pretty nice sized chunk of change

The buyer should not have to ask what's wrong with it to anything. That should be disclosed.

I am asking and wondering if the buyer asked for additional photos or if any photos were viewed before purchase. If photos were in the BST ad or emailed to the buyer it seems as if this would've been noticed. Unless the pictures were taken at such an angle to 'hide' this damage.

To me it seems the buyer could have noticed this flaw from any number of photographs. Judging by how bad it looks here, that is. Maybe it wasn't. I haven't seen the original photos, if there were any.

Certainly such a defect should be noted and clearly described or shown in photos. Not every razor needs to be in perfect in order to be sold, but the buyer should be made fully aware of any flaws. Obvious defects should never be a surprise.

I would guess that the seller will make this right for you or he can probably expect never to sell anything here again.

Precisely. Makes you wonder if the seller switched the razor or did the buyer buy site unseen or what is going on here?

I want to hear the explanation on this one. Like has been said before this is not how its done here. For the price paid that needs to be disclosed. Even if it closes centered thats not really the point. Hope this gets remedied soon.

yeah, that's not even something that could of happened in the post, even in the hottest of temperatures. Please keep us posted.

I wholly agree! That is the sort of problem which must be clearly disclosed by the seller. Anything less is akin to EBay shenanigans.
