What's the next step after a Weishi ?

Hi Guys !

I've first bought a Weishi DE to ease me into the wet shaving world. ( See my gallery ).

Then, wanting to up it up a bit, bought a Parker SR1 shavette that gave me a REAL close shave !

Now..I find that shaving with my shavette takes too long ( Compare to my Weishi )

My question is :

What DE razor could I buy that would come close to the shaving of the Shavette..and have a little more *hummpff* than my Weishi ?

PS: I have to be able to buy it on Ebay...and doesn't have to cost an harm and a leg.

I presently use Shark blades...

Thanks in advance for your sugesstions !!!! :biggrin1:

Merkur 37c or 39c (slant head razors) will give you a smooth close shave with little to no irritation.

When I compared them both I did two full 4 pass shaves with these two slant razors (yes that is 8 passes in one shaving session) and got no irritation what so ever.

I was recently on a 3 month traveling vacation and only took 2 razors. One of the choices was the 37c slant which I used more often than the other razor I took (Futur)

Thanks...I will definitively look into those Merkur..

..and try to find them on sales, because with shipping to Canada, they come close to 80$..!

Thanks for your advice !!! :biggrin1:

I would recommend getting a NOS Bakelite Slant from italianbarber
http://www.italianbarber.com/vintage-bakelite-slant-razor

I have a Merkur 37c slant and in my opinion the Bakelite is better. The Bakelite slant has a better cutting angle and it's very light weight gives you more control than the 37c. The only down-side is that the construction of the razor isn't as the nice as the 37c but that's okay, the bakelite slant is the best razor I've used. I bought this razor after hearing many great things about it from leisureguy.

Get a fatboy and put a feather into it you'll be impressed

I'm not against the Fatboy...but the prices , again, are prohibitive for me.

I'm looking around 60$ Canadian ( shipping included )

I have a budget..and will try to stick to it.

Thanks for the suggestion !:001_smile

That's a strange apparatus !! :001_smile

I'm looking more for a heavy, sturdier razor....( Wich doesn't mean this one isn't good )

Thanks for showing me !!!

You might want to look at the Cadet razors. They can be had at Italian Barber, Bullgoose, and a few other places. They are priced around $20-$24 USD and they should be a step up from your current razor in terms of aggressiveness and overall quality.

I highly recommend finding a nice Gem Feather or Bullet tip SE razor on the bay. For me, SE razors fit in that perfect spot between a DE and a straight. Decent ones can be had for between $15-$35 depending on how shiny and new you want it to be.

Yep...you're right.

Around 30$ shipping included.

I'll have to make my choice somewhere |

Thank you !!

Single edge was mentioned. They are going to be about as close to a straight razor as you will find.

You will need to buy a used or NOS as they are no longer produced (as far as I know).

You can get modern PTFE coated stainless steel blades for them and they shave very nicely.

Used they run from $10 up and there are LOTS of them to choose from (I own 10 different types of single edge razors and use one of them at least once a week)

I do suggest you get a Gillette red tip. You will have gains in terms of aggressiveness and razor weight and, having a closer but still easy shaving.

Most industrial blades should be avoided. However, the PTFE coated.Gems are considered to be shave worthy. I love my Gem Push Button with Gem PTFE blade.
