What's the difference between a red dot and a reflex ?

To my knowledge, modern reflex sights are generally more compact than the red dot sights in general and probably have somewhat smaller field of view, but I really have not compared them personally. Many competition guns have the larger "Beer can" sights, but these are getting smaller as well, where as sights such as the Burris Fastfire, Doctor and Trigicon TMR are more low profile and can be used on carry guns, YMMV greatly! The only one I have on a pistol is the Fastfire III, mounted on a Ruger Mk III 22/45. If I were to put one on a carry gun, it would be a TMR. I have a Aimpoint T-1 red dot on my Robinson Arms XCR rifle, which is fairly compact as well, but sits on a pedestal mount to co-witness with my BUIS.
