What's new

What were your 1st shave items/products?

Mine were,

Safety Razor/Parker 60R
DE Blade/Gillette 7 platinum
Brush/EJ BBB
Soap/EJ Aloe Vera
Straight/Thomas Rudd 5/8 full hollow

I hated my 1st DE set up, but still use the straight and have never bought another badger.

So lets hear them. I'm interested to see what folks started out with and wether they still use any of it?

Razor- E.J. Loxley DE
Blade- Derby
Brush- E.J. SBB
Cream- penhaligon's BB
Soap- penhaligon's EF (old formula)
Aftershave- D.R. Harris milk

Parker 90R
Shark Platinum (included with razor)
VDH set (Brush, bowl, soap)
Nivea ASB

Loved it from the start

Razor - Merkur Classic Long Handle
Blade - Derby
Brush - Vulfix 403 Best Badger
Cream - TOBS Lavender and Proraso Green
Aftershave - Thayer's Witch Hazel

I still use TWH as an aftershave. The TOBS Lavender and Proraso Green tubes were both exhausted long ago. The brush and the razor were sold/traded in the B/S/T.

Aluminum Handle Tech - Courtesy of B&B member MOOSE
Omega Boar Brush (Pro48) - Courtesy of Mr. IGG
Dorco 300
Proraso Shaving Cream
Proraso Splash

I don't use the Aluminum Tech very often anymore (but it was a great razor to learn with), and I don't use Dorco blades, but the Omega and Proraso products are regulars in the rotation.

First DE shave
  • Merkur 34C
  • Walgreens Brand Blade
  • Co Bigelow shave cream
  • Vulfix 2234
  • Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue

Also had some Pinaud Clubman & Col. Conk's Bay Rum soap & AS/Cologne

DE-34C, C.O. Bigelow, QED Select 20mm Best Badger, Derby blade, some Gillette aftershave. Great shave!

8th grade- Disposable, Gillette-in-a-can. That's it. Seriously. And I wondered why I hated shaving for eightish years before I stumbled upon this crazy little place.

As a middle schooler:

Gillette Sensor World Cup '94 edition
Gillette Foamy shave cream
Aqua Velva AS

DE:
Grandpa's Gillette Knack
Wal Mart Personna blade
Proraso shave Cream
Aqua Velva AS

I started wetshaving with a Parker 91R, Merkur blades, Classic Shaving bay rum soap, and a generic boar brush I'd received as a gift. Great shaves, but the only product I still use from that lineup is the brush.

EDIT: I think my first shaving setup ever was a Trac II or Atra with a can of Foamy or Barbasol, I don't really remember. I still have a Trac II handle but not the one I started with.

My first proper DE shave included -

40's Super Speed
C&E BBB
Proraso/C.O. Bigelow
Walgreens Blades
Nivea Extra Soothing Balm

It hurt to say that my first shaving stuff was a Gillette fusion with the goo on can that come with the razor. Now, after been a wetshaver for a while I really can not see how I was thinking. I think i fell for the commercials, and that feels embarrassing. But I was only 14 years old at that time, so I guess I wasn't supposed to know better...

1st DE shave

Razor: '40's style SuperSpeed (still my fav along with the 34G).
Blade: Derby (still used occasionally) - prefer IP Red
Brush: Omega Stripey #63171 (PIF'd to another member) - replaced by a Rooney 3/1 Super (love it).
Cream: Proraso - now prefer Vintage Blades creams or Tabac soap.

Originally in 1965:

Red Tip Gillette SS (My father's), later a Gillette Knack
Wilkinson Sword Stainless Steel blade
Boar brush
Noxzema shave cream
Mennen Skin Bracer

44 years later when I took up a DE again:

'54 Flare Tip SS
Gillette 7 O'Clock Super Stainless (Russian green) blade
Omega 10066 Boar brush
Proraso soap
Nivea Sensitive ASB

Well back in the day (c. 1977) the stuff I bought with my own money were:
Schick adjustable injector razor
Personna 74 injector blades
Old Spice shaving mug, and soap
Ever-Ready C40 shaving brush

The mug, soap, and brush were requisite in the submarine service as aerosol cans were banned because the propellants would muck up the catalyst beds in the atmosphere control equipment. I don't know whatever happened to the razor. The blades went out of production ( I mourn for them!). The soap got used up, the mug got broken in a typhoon, but the brush is still in service!

My current kit is:
'65 Gillette Slim
Red pack IP blades
VdH in a hand thrown bowl
Ever-Ready C40 shaving brush :biggrin1:

I know it's time for the brush to retire. I'm saving my pennies for a Golden Nib badger knot to set into a piece of deer antler.
