What's new

What Liquor Did You Get for Christmas?

I was very surprised by the goodies I got this year.

For the first time this year I met one of my brothers-in-law and he ended up moving a few towns away from me. He presented me with a bottle of Balvenie 12 YO double barrel Scotch. I also received a bottle of a bourbon I have never heard before: Angel's Envy.

I tried the Balvenie and have always liked it. However, the Angel's Envy remains unopened until this weekend. :sneaky2: I wonder what I am in store for.

Great idea for a thread, Jim. I was lucky enough to receive some Magnums of wine- Alion and St Henri (which will be enjoyed at a somewhat later date).

Angels Envy is bourbon finished in port wine barrels, and it got many favorable reviews. Personally, I found it young and rough with a long, lingering burn. I really didn't care much for it but I think I'm in the minority.

Huge 1.75 liter of Knob Creek, bottle of Booker's and a bottle of Canadian Club Black. It will be a very happy New Year! :a54:

I have a friend who doesn't drink but is given liquor by vendors all the time. He helps make all of my holidays very happy.

Cherry Brandy - wasn't sure what to do with it so I made a cocktail using 2 shots of rye, 1 shot of cherry brandy, a few dashes of bitters on the rocks.

Wine, a few bottles of wine.

I thought about gifting myself some Beefeaters but the package store was closed.. oh well it's the thought that counts.

Highland Park 12 & 18 gift set
Ardmore 1991 cask strength G&M
Old Pulteney 12 & 17 gift set
A bunch of 2007 Brunello (ok, a gift for myself....)

Gave some and received some liquor this year for Christmas:

I received a bottle of Glenmorangie 10 and JD Single Barrel. Looking forward to sipping some whisky this weekend.

1 x 1l Jack Daniels.
2 x 70cl Jack Daniels.
1 x Miniture gift set of Jack Daniels.
1 x Miniture gift set of Jim Beam Black.

:D

I got a nice bottle of Ardbeg 10 year, but haven't opened it yet.

I made some limoncello (Italian lemon liqueur) to bottle up as gifts, and have been, uh, doing some quality assurance testing to make sure it's good. It's good.

Limoncello is very easy to make by the way: 2 bottles of 195 proof grain alcohol (seriously, don't smoke when you're making this), the zest from 20 lemons. Let it sit for a few months, then filter through coffee filters, mix in sugar water (I used 5 cups water and 3 cups sugar boiled and cooled), and you're good to go. It's a great late night sipper with a couple of ice cubes or an afternoon spritzer with seltzer water.
