So short story a girl at work gave me this razor since she has heard me talking about my obsession now of de shaving and felt I would respect it. This belonged to her Grandpa who passed about 12yrs ago. I know its a Gillette and has a 8 and 2 on the underside of the head in opposing corners and made in U.S.A

That was a very nice gift. Should be a letter and a number on the underside of the base plate, the letter being code for the year of production and the number for the quarter. Could the 8 be a letter B? That would indicate second quarter 1956 for example.

Really nice gift no matter the razor. Clean it up and a few months down the road see if she wants it back. A nice keep sake from family

Ding, ding, ding.......we have a winner. That wide band above the TTO knob makes it an early fifties.

New info upon more magnification the bottom of the head reads like this.

so it looks like I have stumbled into a oldie but goodie. Now to clean it correctly and take it for a shave

I will post some more pics tomorrow . The cleaning instructions did this thing a world of good. A little polishing left to do but its styling again

So here we go part 2. After a little cleaning and polishing I think its good to go another 60yrs. I shaved with it last night with a Merkur blade and it was a nice shave for a newbie
