What did you hone today?

A very relaxing morning here in Devon bringing this Wade&Butcher, Taylor’s Eye Witness and Gong up to speed:

1k/3k synthetic, vintage Coticule, blue-grey Thuringian. All good.

I honed a Japanese Aporis 888 today. I killed the edge brought it back on a Shapton 5K the went too my Vintage Coticule under running water till it stuck, then stropped it 50/50 on a Kanayama 60000. Passed the hht like nothing.

Had a problem getting this razor shave ready so put it away for awhile. Few days ago just took it to the coticule for few minutes before it felt like it was good. Excellent 2 pass shave this morning. Zero sting from the aftershave as well which is always nice.

The huff ne of today was a Wacker Sheffield. For somehow I got a tiny chip on it. So I killed the edge brought back on a Shapton 5K then hit it a few strokes on my Shapton 8K, then transitioned over to my Surgical Black Arkansas. I used three drops of glycerin, rubbed it real good all over the stone then added the water too it. Stropped on my Kanayama 60K. Very nice shave.

Figured I’d get one of the GD lab rats up and running. Began with a DMT 600 and then on to a King 1K. Kind of a waste of effort.
Took it to. Naniwa SS 1K, Set a proper bevel. Then a 3, 5, 8, 12K progression.
A most acceptable edge. Too bad the razor itself looks so sad.

Honed these two, a James Razor Sheffield and a J.A. Henckels 1/2 Hollow. I honed them 1K, 5K, and 8K on Naniwa Super Stones then finished on my Escher Barbers Delight with a heavy slurry diluted to straight water. I’ll test shave with them tonight.

What material is the scales on your Sheffield? I have a Wade Butcher with identical scales and I'm trying to figure out what they are?

This le grelot I took a small frown from has become my designated new rock whipping boy. I started out on a new coti I just received the other day and then moved on to this massive stone I wanted to revisit. The coticule was a nice surprise good cutting power but not annoyingly fast, a lot of tactile feedback. One you can be on your way with fairly quickly which is nice when many I get these days are more picky. As for the huge rock, I hate the feedback, it feels like you are dragging your stone across the bottom of a coffee mug regardless of what you throw on top of it but it is very very fine whatever it is. I just stopped when the undercut got very aggressive. Edge seems really pushed, hopefully it is smooth... Hopefully...
