What's new

What did I just buy?

Went looking around some local antique stores and found this stuff, it was all in one case but I know the case is not for the razor.
Here's the razor it's some sort of Gillette:

And here's the case it came with:

Thanks! I cleaned up the fat handle some and it's pretty worn but I still think it's a cool little razor. And my slim fits nicely in the case so win win.

Believe me, RAD has set in, I went to 4 antique stores today but I didn't find much and what I did find wasn't in my price range.

Sorry for bumping this up again buuuut, OMG just got done shaving with this razor and it was amazing. The closeness, the maneuverability and just the feel of the shave was oh so good. I think I may have found my new favorite razor.

Question though, I did an ok job of cleaning this guy but there is still some gunk on the bottem plate and on the knurling of the handle, what is the best way to clean a gold razor? I'm not too worried about taking off the gold plating as it has been well used and much of it is missing.

leave it soak in scrubbing bubbles; you may have to repeat the soak several times; use a soft toothbrush to try and remove the gunk after the soak.

Nice find, both on the razor and the case.

There are far more Fatboys about than Fatboy cases. If you ever get on of those razors, it'll have a sweet home. If you wanted, I bet you could get some pretty nice stuff in a BST swap for it.

The Fat Handle Tech is a fine razor. I like the feel of that particular handle, and the shave is great. It's praised by some pretty knowledgeable posters here.

Congrats!

yes it is, and never apologize for asking questions; one only has to apologize for stupid answers.

Awesome! Thanks for the help.

I wouldn't even know what that case would be worth? And I may get a fatboy still, they're just kinda expensive for a poor college student. And with my RAD getting worse by the day I need to start looking for better deals.

I agree with everything you said about the razor, to me it just feels right ya know?

I can't put a dollar amount on the case, but I bet if you put it on the BST and offered to swap it for a nice DE razor or two you'd get plenty of offers.

Cool, I'll have to think about it, not sure if I want to buy a fat boy or if I would like a different razor.

Trust me, fat boys are not that rare, but the cases are. Just hang onto the case for a while, you will either find a razor for it, or get a good trade for it.

I also have a fat handled tech which looks almost exactly like yours. I recommend using a Feather, or other aggressive blade, as the razor itself is rather gentle.

Good score, keep checking those antique stores.

Yes, it does seem quite gentle, I really want to shave tomorrow morning again and get really close but I doubt my face can take that much.

Dang, I just realized that at another antique store I went to they had what looked to be a Gillette NEW in a box, but the box was for a Tech, should of bought that one too...

Getting RAD much?

But seriously, I wouldn't worry too much about matching razor to box for your everyday shaver (unless it's cheap)--it's not like you're keeping it in collectible condition anyhow. That said, a NEW would certainly be a good shaver, too.

Just a little bit haha. I've got a couple weeks off between when I finished work and when schools starts, haven't really had too much to do.
