I bought this only because I don't have a Swedish hone yet :)
That and I picked up a nice Y/G thuri for a buck this past weekend. I was feeling saucy.

Any ideas? I can't find anything about the company online. I don't think it's a Schwedenstein as those were darker in color AFAIK. But I recently bought a microscope so at least I can test it and add it to the data repository.

Pics of the yg thuri or it didnt happen :)

What you have there is rather obvious. It's a swedish sickle sharpening stone :p

Ask and you shall receive. One dollar. I can't make that up.
And the Swedish stone is as much a sickle stone as it was 50 cents....
I've never seen sickle stones that are 8 x 1 1/8
It's a natural, that's all I know.

That thuri is very interesting looking. Is it backed with what looks like a barber hone?

edit:
I see isnt, now that you posted side views. Heck of a score though!

Congratulations,

what you have found is a very rare old Loosbryne hone.

You can find all informations to this hones in Henk Bos essay "Grinding and honing, part 3" from page 99 on.
http://bosq.home.xs4all.nl/

A stone exactly like yours you will see on page 105.

Thank you very much for that information. I'm very excited now. It looks like at the very least it's a prefinisher and perhaps a finisher.
The history is really cool too.

I owe you one hatzicho, I never would have figured this out.

Just got the stone today. First thing I noticed is that it is very heavy and dense. It has never been lapped or used, still with saw marks on all sides and the indelible ink stamp "Made in Sweden" on one face.
Here's a picture as I've started to lap. So far it feels soft and Thuri-like. The stone itself is gray but the slurry is green/grey not unlike my y/g Thuri slurry- in fact it looks nearly identical. I'll post another shot when I've progressed to 1000g w/d.

Here is the stone lapped to 220g and wet. Very gorgeous stripes to it. It smells very earthy as well.

Haha, that will have to wait. I get about 45 minutes a night of razor related activity before SWMBO get's that look.
So tonight was "clean the hone" night. Tomorrow will be "try the hone" night. :)
At first look, it feels smooth like a coticule, but not quite like a Thuri. It is very soft like a Thuri though. There was a ton of green mud by the time I had finish lapping, and it took very little effort. Chamfering the ends took two passes on my DMT 8C.
If it's a nice 6k stone with some speed I'll be happy. That is a hole in my progression that has been filled by dilucot for a while now. I'd love to finish a honing a session without a coticule.
Here's one more photo dry and ready to go. I'll get some more pics with my hi-res in sunlight tomorrow. But it's time to watch my Sox kick some Cardinal tail!!
