What's new

went with a Ralph Aust for my my first, new 6/8 straight

Just picked up a new, round edge Ralf Aust 6/8 straight.....after reading reviews all over the web, it seems like these get favorable reviews for weight, balance, overall craftsmanship and quality shaves. Anyone else using a Ralf Aust? what have your experiences been like?

Thanks,

Jason

My Ralf Aust 6/8 spanish point is one of my primary razors and gives a great shave. Seems to hold its edge quite a while. I use it, a Wacker Chevalier and my TI frequently.

One of the best deals out there for a new blade.

A 6/8 Spanish Point is in my regular rotation along with much pricier blades (new, custom+vintage) and it holds its own.

I just placed an order for a 7/8" Aust with Spanish Point. I have heard nothing but positive reviews though, so hopefully we'll enjoy them!!

I've got the same razor you do . So far I'm a fan but keep in mind I've never shaved with another razor so I have nothing to compare it to. It's sharp, shaves well, and it's well built IMO. I think my aggressive shaving angle has dulled the blade and it is in need of a honing but to do it over again I would still buy the RA.

Just got a 7/8 Ralf Aust Spanish point yesterday. It shaves as well as any big name razor I've got. Fit&Finish is flawless, as is the grind. Very nice heft and balance. I'm very impressed with it!

Where did you find the 7/8 spanish point? All I see in 7/8 is square point or round ?

They did have them as of a couple of days ago...then as of yesterday no more 7/8 spanish point. Shoulda jumped on it when I had the chance...the square point should suffice as I have a Aust 6/8 Spanish already.

Dang....Well the square point ones are extremely nice looking, so I'm sure you'll be happy with it!! :thumbup1:

He is putting out some of the best production razors right now IMO. i have lost faith in Dovo as I have seen a lot of quality control issue.

I have the identical razor and the quality is second to none for current production straight razors.

Aust's are sweet, I have the 7/8 square and 6/8 Spanish, always enjoy when they come around in the rotation.

I just found out they only make those acrylic scales for the 7/8 blade. Bummed I didn't pull the trigger on the grenadilla before it sold out on SRD.

I have a Ralk Aust and love it. I rescaled mine though in lace wood and use it as my daily shaver. The one thing that you find out about the Raft that when honing a stainless steal version it will take a little longer to hone. My carbon steal I think holds a better edge than the stainless steal. But, I like the fact that I don't get staining on the blade.
