In my search for interesting woods, I could only think of a few different types of woods with cool grains (Swamp ash is one I knew from guitar making). TO THE GOOGLE!
To my dismay (joy) I found this:

A ton of different woods with a picture of their grains. So next time you are looking for an interesting wood grain to make a pen handle, scales, or anything DIY.... Here is a good start. This doesn't include EVERY wood, but a GREAT list that I couldn't help but pass along. As you can see, Swamp Ash is missing
