Weird new skin issue

I'll probably end up asking my doctor about it eventually, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar problem: I've been using a DE for a little over a year now with no problems. Lately (in the last couple of months) whenever I let my beard grow out for more than a couple of days, I get two red, flaky spots on my chin area that itch pretty badly for about a day and then just continually flake. The same exact two spots every time, one near the corner of my mouth and one on my chin. I've tried lotion but nothing seems to help the flaking and the redness. I haven't switched any products recently and it only happens when my beard grows a bit. I'm 27 and I've never had a problem like that before, so the sudden onset is a bit weird.

Could it be this? It can appear on face too. (seborrheic dermatitis) http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/home/common/skin/disorders/157.html

You won't really know until you see a doctor.

No need for a doctor, IMHO. More than likely, its absolutely Seborrheic Dermatitis, especially if it keeps coming back in the exact same place(s). I get it too, in mustache and goatee, at times if I dont "keep it at bay". The best thing to use is dandruff shampoo, the best being the ones with the ingredients:

1. Selenium Sulfide (Selsun Blue)

2. Pyrithione Zinc (Head and Shoulders)

3. Coal Tar (Neutrogena T/Gel)

The generics work just as good, just look at the labels for the active ingredient.

Though keep in mind it can "get used" to one ingredient, so I keep all three on hand and rotate them, using each one once a week (use one every other day or so) while I'm in the shower. I never have symptoms return as long as I do this. Just lather it in, let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse. Give it a week, and it will disappear.

If that doesn't work, THEN go to a dermatologist, I just wouldn't waste the $$ until trying the above.

I know those spots well; the same thing happens to me. In addition to all the above, you might want to try OTC or Rx cortisone cream. But I'm only a sonofa barber, not a doctor, so this should not be taken as medical advice.
