What's new

We have been doing it all wrong

I just found out we have been doing it wrong all these years. Here is the website that proves it:
http://www.instructables.com/id/shaving-with-baking-soda/?ALLSTEPS&ref=flash

You don't need shaving cream or cup soap after all. You just use, get ready for it, -BAKING SODA!

Right up there with using aspirin to prevent baldness and making your own underwear with fast food napkins. Maybe not as bad as the Camel urine hair conditioner.

You know some poor soul found the website and is trying to shave with arm and hammer.

We have a lot of work to do here at this group . . .

Wait a minute......woah...woah...woah.....was that guy actually saying that he rinses the baking soda mixture off his face prior to shaving ATG! I'm at a loss for words!

Right....and his disposable lasts for a month with this method.

I think I have it. The guy doesn't have real facial hair. The baking soda clogs the blades so he isn't cut to the point he has to call 911, the effort just sands off the superficial hairs and he thinks he is doing great.

Wouldn't work for me.

I think the only thing saving this guy's face from total destruction is the lube strip on the cartridge. After reading some of the comments I'd like to see the results of the guy who wants to try this method with a straight razor... It's been a while since I've seen a good horror show!

It kinda makes sense. The baking powder would make a mild alkali solution that would saponify some of the oils on the face/whiskers so you'd get a bit of slipperiness that would help the razor glide. I don't know how that would go down in practice...

Is anyone else intrigued by the notion of trying to shave with baking soda?
Gotta tell you, I'm a little tempted :punk:

I'm game if anyone else is

EDIT: Oh, and that fireshaving thing is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard.
Nowhere in my dopp bag do I carry electrical tape. That kid is one bored pyromaniac!

EDIT2: Lighter fluid as aftershave? This kid is just taking the p*ss now! He's to shaving what Lady GaGa is to the music industry. Not doing it right (or at all, technically), but having a laugh seeing how many suckers can fall for what he/he (yes, I'm implying they're both men) is doing.

Just combine the methods...burn it off and put out the grease fire with the baking soda. I have a friend that uses a disposable for a month at a time and just uses water to shave :confused1

Can’t say I would try either. I do have a friend that said he would do the lighter method while in the army. He stated that he was required to be clean-shaven every day, and on some days, he did not have time to shave properly so he would use the lighter. He made sure to mention that he had a buzz cut at the time and would only do it if he had shaved the day before.
