What's new

We have a great community and here are a few reasons why I think so… My year in review of some interactions with a few stellar B&Bers….

On the "interactions" front. I was just telling a family member what a thoughtful group of people are here. It's pretty obvious that we look out for each other and notice when somebody hasn't been posting. What really floors me is how much a few simple words of kindness at just the right(bad) time can mean the world when a feller is rolling in the gutter. This is not something one can get on (anti)social media.

I just wanted to say that this forum has the best membership group of any forum (shaving related or not) that I have ever belonged to. And I have belonged to many over the years. Truly amazing people.

A few 2021 personal examples of how cool the fine folks on this fine forum are…..

- I was lucky enough to meet @rockviper today in person after buying a few soaps/AS from his BST as we live maybe 10 miles apart. He brought a trunk load of shaving stuff just to show me for funzies and we spent a good half hour chatting about shaving gear. I asked him if he had a cheap Injector I could buy or borrow and he immediately said he would lend me his favourite Hydro-Magic to try for a while. Oh, and here are some blades to try as well. True Gentleman. 👍

- I have always wanted to try a Morris and Forndran but Brad Sears doesn’t ship to Canada. @SgtCrppls knew I wanted to try one and sent me his M&F L7 Finest just to try for a couple of months. Forget about the extras he has thrown in with trades and such on previous interactions. Another gentleman. He changes brushes more often than many change their underwear, so maybe he will forget he lent it to me? 🤞

- @Owen Bawn . Ah, Owen. He may come across as crusty but that is what happens when you spend your childhood and teenage years with Jesuits. I know and still have the mental scars. Anyhow, I always wanted a Simpson M7 Manchurian and Simpson‘s top online sales rep (Owen 😜) had two and decided to send me one if I ordered and sent him one of the blowout Amazon Alrossa Chubby 1 Supers. Win for both of us. And the Palmolive stick was a nice touch. Great fellow even though he likes the Boston Bruins.

- Another local B&Ber @linty1 bought a Paladin brush from me and just HAD to leave me a care package when I dropped off his brush. A SE head, blades, lotions, etc. Didn’t have to do it, but as a true gentleman, he did and it was much appreciated.

There may be a few more I am missing, but I just wanted to thank the Academy B&B folks that make this place so informative and fun as well as the folks mentioned above.

Have a great holiday season all!

P.S. Sam and Doug… Say goodbye to your brush and razor. Suckers!!!!! JK. 😜

+1! B&B has the best community on the net!! :a29:

My Elbows Leak
In a world that seems at times to be full to the gills with greed, commercialism, fear and uncertainty, B&B strips away the politics, rudeness and self serving behavior.
It's an oasis that sets the stage for people to be able to be their best, and they do.
Aside from close loved ones and dear friends, no other place in this social media driven world does that happen. And it happens between people who have never met and who have no more in common than simply membership here.

Truer words have never been spoken....oops I mean posted.

Well said @SharpieB. You hooked me up with some really good soap samples when we arranged a trade with other things that I can't even recall what they were.
I've been around here for a few years but kind of locked in when the virus lockdowns started. The rule forbidding discussion on the virus kept this as a safe place to relax. It's remarkable the few hints there are here of the tribalization that marks the world.
I also have met a local forum member, (@Ramathorn) who for about two years when I was new here would show up on his Harley and lend me vintage razors to try. Very cool.
This past year I was in a SE thread and @GNR sends me a PM asking for my address so he can send me a MMOC, an international delivery for him! Amazing. Really like that razor.
Plus some of you are funny. Sometimes.
I hope in 2022 I can be on the giving end.

I wholeheartedly agree, @SharpieB.

I know that I've met at least one B&Ber IRL, but I have no idea who it was. I attended my cousin's wedding* in Los Gatos and some dudes were talking about shaving. It seemed an odd subject for party conversation, and when I asked, I was told that "this site, Badger & Blade" had a bunch of information about shaving and other things. I just shook my head and moved on. I mean, how much could there be to shaving? You just squirt-and-scrape, right?

Then my fiancé (now SWMBO) found out that I hated shaving and turned me on to this little thing of ours in a bid to help. I tend to research things to no end, and that led me to B&B. I've been here for seven years, had some great conversations, learned a ton about shaving, found some other rabbit holes to deep-dive into, and generally felt welcomed by a bunch of strangers. What's not to like?

I just wish I had taken those dudes seriously right away...

*In case "those dudes" are still active and happen to see this, it was at the "Tim C. marries Susan P." wedding. :)

I won’t even argue there have had many a members offer me things (I did refuse but the thought was good) in all honesty I don’t think I’ve seen such a generous place in all of my life …and they don’t do it as you say because they have to they do it because they want to ….it’s a bit of light in the dark world …makes me happy when I read good things :)

I'm not glad. This forum has cost me many extra thousands of dollars over the past two years!

It can't be my fault so I'm looking at starting a class action against the admin.
Yeah honestly I’ve spent some money too. But the good thing is it makes us happy, hopefully…,.. the trick is to exercise self control if possible when it comes to purchasing things. Yeah the dreaded acquisition disorders!

Self control? That's a THING?!

Don't MAKE me come up on that stage, Chris!
Will and Chris will replace Batman and Robin.
