Warped Wacker?

Hello Everyone,

This is my first post, and, unfortunately, it's not a happy subject. I recently bought a Wacker Best traditions 13/16, and it appears to have a warped blade. I bought it from a shop I've used once before with no issues, and was supposed to come professionally honed, but when I received it, it had a kind-of-straight bevel on the show side and a very uneven one on the other, as shown below. I apologize for the bad photos, but I do not own a decent camera anymore (kids...). I tried to show the blade flat on the smooth side of a DMT 325, as well as the bevels/hone wear on each side AS I RECEIVED IT.

Thoughts as to whether to return the razor, or whether a pro honemeister could fix this are appreciated. As stated above, I really like the razor (and can't find another), but I can't live with the bade as-is, obviously.

Steve

If it can be returned, I would send it back. To get a proper edge on the razor, quite a bit of steel will need to be removed.

Thanks, everyone. The shop I bought it from found me the same razor with dark horn scales and is exchanging it for me. Very happy. Thanks again, and next time I chime in, I'll make it something happier.

wow, you got a bad one.
try to send an email explaining them what you have on hands before shipping it back.
some company will just tell you to keep it instead of paying the postage back to them...

Thanks for the tip. The vendor is being very cool about it. I sent him photos, described the problem and he is giving me a straight up exchange. Basically, I think he missed the flaw because he was plowing through several razors at once. Not that this is a good thing, but I can see how it could happen, and he is making good on it.

The replacement is going to be unhoned, so I can send it out or do it myself. I think I have paid for a couple of honings at SRD I haven't used....

one suggestion
watch in front of your razor with the point up and the spine down and leave your eye to go untilthe heel and if you see that seems that leans towards lef or right and when closing your razor if it touches the scales near the point i think is warped
additionally put your razor on a hone without moving it but put and the two sides of it
if one side feels is not sitting properly touching completely flat all its surface as it should do this also indicates that your blade is warped
i had all these issues with a dovo bergischer lowe and i could't figure what was going until i readed several threads with a lot of dovos and other brands of course

If I ever run into this again - please please no - I'll definitely give this a try. Thanks.

in addition that the bevel is as you indicate doesn't seem to show any warp
because all the blades are cooled rapidly in oil they are never 100% even as when they are deeped to cool they bend a little bit but if if they are in some acceptable tolerances there is any problem honing them

BTW, I was in a self-imposed "no-coticule" zone (long story, mainly about me staying up all night with various rocks), and now I'm dreaming of slurry again after reading the post and poking around a bit...;).
