Wanted: Locally bought shave creams/gels

Greetings!

I no longer use the canned shaving cream and have recently upgraded to Conk's Amber soap and am happy with the results. Now I'm looking at some of the other shave creams/gels that I can find at local stores:

Kiss My Face Moisture Shave, Peaceful Patchouli
Kiss My Face Moisture Shave, Unscented
Dr. Bronner's Organic Shave Gel, unscented
C.O. Bigelow's (green tube) at Bath and Body Works

Apart from Bigelow's, which has a loyal following here on B&B, has anyone tried any other of the above mentioned products?

I'd really appreciate your input and thoughts. Hope I don't start a controversy with this. (Crossing my fingers) LOL

Happy Shaving, everyone!

For local store, here's a list depending on your location: http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Category:Shopping_by_Country

For the products, I did not try the Kiss my face that you mentioned, I have key lime and pomegranate here and they are fantastic. I would think that those would perform the same way than the ones I have, only the scent would be different (or unscented as you listed unscented). I know that many use the unscented to make superlather since it won't affect the other product's scent.

Bigelow is rebranded in the states, it's Proraso (same thing). It's not a luxury cream like the high end English luxury products (GFT, TOBS, etc) but it's a very decent product that I could not go without. Really nice stuff. If you like the scent(Old Italian Barbershop) and menthol (cooling effect), it's for you!

Try Vand der Hagen soap. Walmart and Walgreens carry it. Also Williams soap can be found at CVS. Very Cheap. VDH is far better than Conk, IMHO.

I've used Kiss My Face creams. It's a liquid in a pump bottle. Lathers suprisingly well, but the scents have always been kind of chemically artificial smeling to me. KMF definitely has its fans, but I'm not a huge one. I keep a bottle of vanilla, that I will occasionally use to help bring a lather back to life if it get it too wet. Bigelo is awesome. Being from Texas, you will appreciate its cooling feeling for the hot summer days.

Luckily I live near a Whole Foods Market. I wonder if they give out small samples? Might have to give them a call.

Welcome Ross! Another North Texan! Both Kiss my Face and Bigelow (Proraso) are great. You can't go wrong there

So many North Texans here on B&B! Though not a native Texan, I like to think of this state as my adopted home.

Yeah, I've seen VDH at CVS, and I've read good reviews about it. That's another option I have.

Oh also, if you want to find some higher end stuff, go to Central Market

The nearest Central Market is about 45 minutes away, but I'll definitely be paying them a visit soon.

If you have a local Ulta/Sephora/Nordstrom store you should look into the following:

Clinique M Shave Aloe Gel
Clinique Post Shave Healer

They also have Jack Black, Lab Series and other brands that are highly regarded by some folks here on B&B.

Thanks,
Mike

...Now I'm looking at some of the other shave creams/gels that I can find at local stores...

There is also Cremo Shave Cream and Every Man Jack which is sold in Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc. I've got a local barbershop supply place in NJ that I found Lucky Tiger and Derby creams. Others I can think of is Aubrey's Organics and the Real Shaving Company.

I get Nivea Extra Moisturizing Shaving Cream in a tube locally here, and its just as good as some real expensive stuff I have sent away for.

Welcome to B&B. You might also want to check your local ethnic markets. The Indian markets typically carry some shave cream at reasonable prices. If you wish to locate higher end creams you could head to your local mall. Depending on where you live, you could find The Body Shop, AoS products, Clinique. It really pays to do some checking out your locale. You just might find some real bargains.

If you are anywhere near Fort Worth, check out a little place called Salon Supply

On Hemphill. Lots of classic aftershaves, Arko products and a limited number of blades, brushes and razors. Worth a stop if you find yourself on the friendly side of the Metroplex.

As I recall my AoS samples came from Sephora and my Jack Black came from either Sephora or Bloomies. I also have an unscented AoS sample set that I got from their store. If you have any of these stores near you they may be worth a try.

I only know one person who tried shaving with Bonners, not a fan (for shaving, fine for washing jeans). KMF and Bigelows are fine.

A local pharmacy decided to close out Nivea Extra Moisturizing Shaving Cream for $1.99 Canadian. I bought every one I could get my hands on!

There are a few Crabtree & Evelyn stores in the DFW area. Use Google maps to identify their location.

Added: also TJ Maxx sometimes carries closeouts, such as Scottish Fine Shave Soap. Sprouts in Ft. Worth has one shelf of "natural" shaving creams-- Burt's Bees, etc.

Ft. Worth and Dallas have Neiman's and there is a Neiman's Outlet at Grapevine Mills Mall, but I haven't shopped in Neiman's for shaving goods.

L'Occitane stores are in Dallas (North Park and Galleria)

I can tell you that Central Market carries the Kiss My Face brand. I just bought the mint one tonight and shaved with it. I bowl lathered one pump and got four passes out of it. It was honestly great. I cannot speak for the Peaceful Patchouli, but I can speak to the quality. I will buy it again when it is gone, especially at the 8 dollar price point.
