Wallie World stocking Wilkinson Sword DE Blades

I believe in voting with my feet, putting my money where my mouth is and so on. Since I started Wet/DE/Traditional/? shaving I have tried to by my supplies form local venders. Finding that hard to do I've made a habit of picking up a package of DE blades every trip to Wal-Mart with the hope that they'll continue to stock them and if that fails I'll have a stockpile.:001_tongu
Yesterday's trip i found that instead of the Persona Platinum Chrome Steel blades they had Wilkinson Sword "Super Chrome Blades." I'm hoping they are as good as the Personas or at least worth the $2 I spent on them.
I'll head to the showers and report back.

Interesting. Never shaved with Wilkinson Sword, but intend to. Wally World in my area (went to 2 recently) still has just the Personnas, but it's possible they are phasing them out and/or testing the Wilkinsons in your area (though a test market rollout for a $2 DE item seems doubtful!).

Their website still lists just the Personnas, $5.58 for 3x 10 packs.

Has anyone else seen Wilkinsons at Wallie World yet?

I have yet to see any DE blades, or SE blades at a WalMart in Canada. I did see they have Williams soap, Wilkinson sword soap and a Wilkinson brush at my local Wally world, but no blades.

i am a overnight stocker at walmart. the one i work at has just got in wilkinson disposables at the moment. so hope we get the blades soon cause i get 10% discount

Nothing here in St. Pete. They sold off all of their Personnas and now have no DE blades. Plus, the "associates" at the store that work in that department don't know if they will ever carry DE blades. In fact, one nice lady that worked in that department did not know what DE blades were! When I told her she said she never saw them there! :w00t:

Thought I read where the maker of Personna went belly up---probably bringing in the new ones to take up the slack--which is fine--cause the new Walmart Personna I put in today gave a worse shave than the 7 shave old Derby it replaced.

I'm curious as to the volume of DE blades they sell and to the variations by region or even by store.

OK, I'm not sure if Des Moines Iowa is a test market for the blades but i will by more to help y'all get them. cause I'm thinking it's a good thing.

I used my regular setup for this morning's shave but switched the blade. It was a bit early but worth a go.

My set up is as follows.
-Silvertip Badger brush
-Shave Secret shave oil
-CO Bigelow/Proraso Cream
-Merkur 38C
-CO Bigelow Blue Aftershave

I have been noticing my 38C was not holding the old Personas securely. The blade would end up unequal between the sides and even a little crooked. This resulted in an aggressive and gentle side when shaving. That being said I always got great shaves from the Personas and would simply flip the razor as I shaved to address different areas of my beard.
The Sword blades fit my 38C more securely and do not shift any noticeable amount. The first pass was a little bit of adjustment as both sides were in between the way the Personas felt. I attribute that to the blade fitting the 38C better. A small adjustment in my technique and the blades felt wonderful. I'm only one shave in but so far I'm feeling pretty good about the Wilkinson Sword/38C match up. I got a BBS shave with no Weepers or nicks. I am interested to see how the Swords hold up as I could get 5-7 shaves per Persona.
I'll keep you posted.

Personna/ American Safety Razor Company has not went belly up. Wal-Mart canceled their contract with ASR, which led ASR to have a bit of a financial crises. The company has been reorganized, and now appears to be stable.

Since Wal-Mart canceled their entire contract with Personna (who in addition to DE blades, also supplied Walmart with disposable razors, and Personna brand Trac II, and Atra carts) it only makes sense that they would be rolling out a new product line to take up the slack in the shaving isle.

The Wilkinson blades were one my dads when I was a kid, but they were made in England then. The local unavailability his blades was one of the things that dove him from his DE. Right now I order his whenever I place an order and it would be nice if he could pick them up locally.

The Walmart where I live in Ontario has Personna blades. Shoppers has Wilkinson's for a whopping $15 for 10 blades.

Not worth it IMHO

I got the last pack of these at my Wallyworld in central NJ. There was a spot for them on the shelf but there weren't any left.

The packaging is very different than the more expensive Wilkinson Swords that I have seen in various places.

I haven't shaved with them yet as I just put a new Bluebird in my EJ86 but will give it a ride when it's time to reload.

My local Wal-Mart had the Wilkinsons for an outrageous price. They never sold any, and no longer stock them. Most places around here have them for $10.00 to $15.00. My local independent pharmacy carries Lord Platinums for $5.00.

Confirmed today that Wal-mart is indeed stocking these blades with widespread distribution. If you haven't seen them yet, you should soon.

$1.76 per 10 here so I rolled the dice on them.

I saw them there yesterday. Made in Germany. 10 pak for $1.76.

They also had Made in China Wilkinson Trac II compatible blades in a 10 pak for $3.54.

Interesting that they now have the Wilkinson blades! Did you happen to notice the country of origin and where they were manufactured?

Cheers.

My local Walmart only has the Personnas (which are not even close to the Red Personnas), but I did find that the local Bed, Bath and beyond carried the Wilkinson Sword blades. I gave them a try, but were not very impressed. At least if I ever run out of blades, LOL, I could pick some up for an emergency.
