Vintage Gillette Id

Well after looking through the net i cannot see any information about my newly acquired razor and am hoping the B&B wealth of information is going to pull through
I an currently using a Makur 38 Barberpole but after lurking on this forum i wanted to dabble in vintage stuff & found this on that well known auction site & picked it up for £4.70.
when i was cleaning this it unscrewed revealing a triple little file presumably for nails .

Interesting. I'm no expert on the older razors especially the English Gillettes. Makes me wonder though, how many people have that type of razor and it has the hidden file that they don't know about. I bet alot of B&Bers will be checking thier old 3-piece razors after seeing this thread.

True cheers Thomas , if any one does try the thread on the handle to release the file twists the opposite way than you think ,so when you screw the head pieces on you carry on screwing to reveal the file !

I have one with the same handle, but with other head.

The handle i think is from a Wardonia razor.

Can't tell for sure from the picture, but the grit looks a little coarse and wouldn't leave a smooth edge . . .

Makes me wonder though, how many people have that type of razor and it has the hidden file that they don't know about.

My guess would be almost nobody has a hidden file like that.

Made in England Gillette with a hidden file... That sounds like it's worth something in my neck of the woods.


I'm curious why a nail file would be inside a razor handle... maybe if you keep twisting you will find a corkscrew...

OK, I'll be the one to say it.

I think someone added the file. Not sure why. I just think if any manufacturer was making them that way someone else would have posted one by now.

Plus it's not a fingernail file. At least it doesn't look like one to me.

It's cool, but I bet the finial is loose in the handle.

Maybe a 007 kind of thing?

Personally - I hide dried unicorn tears in all my hollow handles, but that's another thread...

My money is the file is an aftermarket addition. It looks just like about 20 files I have on my workbench. And I would agree that it was added for weight.

I Think it was a get out of jail Razor, they used it in jail to file down the Bars and escape , Then they would shave and have a nice clean cut look so they can blend in with the rest of the free men ? Hey it sounds like a great Idea for a Movie, we can call it "Clean Cut" what do you guys think? It can be the first dedicated DE Razor Movie
