Vigorous Mashing ! Help me !

Hello B&B !

I have been wet shaving for nearly 2 years now but still consider myself as a newbie.
I have this very bad habit of mashing the shaving brush against my face. I used a cheap synthetic brush for 5 years which led me to develop this habit :(
I am afraid, this would damage all my brushes, they just lose 2-3 hairs everytime i lather ! Just to get the lather faster and much thick on my face i tend to do it !

How do i overcome this ? I think i need to be more patient !!!
Please help me.

Thanks in advance :)

Just remember that it takes about 30 days to create a new habit, so you will have to force yourself to go easier on the pressure during this period. As you get farther into the adjustment period, you will find you do better and better, with some days of regression. If you keep at it, in a month or so you will be able to lather with lighter pressure and less worry of damaging your brushes.

Good luck.

Focus!

...or just keep buying cheap brushes so when you do break the knot, they're easier to replace.

Here's an only-half-joking recommendation: Instead of buying cheap brushes and trashing them, buy the most expensive brush you possibly can--really stretch things here on price, and make it hurt a little. That way, every time you find yourself mashing it into your face, you'll cringe thinking about how much that darn thing cost you, and you'll re-double your efforts to be gentle in order to not ruin a very costly investment.

Maybe you need just a little more water in your lather so it spreads easier and quicker for you. Are you using good quality soaps or creams? Maybe the stuff you use lathers poorly which causes you to do this. Sometimes we just do things unconsciously, when I was a kid I would grip my pencils so hard my fingers would hurt. Don't know why I did it, just did. Eventually I stopped.

Also take more time to form your lather in a bowl first. When you have a great lather made prior to applying it to your face I doubt that you will mash so hard.

Actually the expensive battery operated 'six shooter' badger brush spins so fast there would be no need to mash even with a mediocre lather. I don't actually own one, just seen them in action on you tube.

I applied pressure a bit when I first got my BK8 because it was different than my Tweezerman. I then started loading more product and the need for pressure just dissappeared.

lather up with your non-dominant hand, that way you will be forced to take your time and concentrate more on what you are doing rather than just mashing the bristles on autopilot

Thanks everyone for you suggestions and you are so right ! i still grip my pens and pencils very hard i wonder why !! Is this connected ? What is the reason behind this ?

I bet it is. I think we must have some sort of uncoordinated stiffness. Haha, I am actually kind of serious.

If i buy a chubby 2 or 3, I will surely overcome this issue ! HaHaHa !!
This is so hard but i am trying my best not apply excess pressure :) Thank you everyone for motivating me !
