Video: First Shave with Jeness Custom Chopper

Hello Gents,

After seven looonnnggg months, my 9/8 custom chopper, made by Jeness in Hungary, came in on Monday. I was so excited, I had to document its maiden voyage!

The shave was excellent, in spite of my shaky hands. (My hands always shake badly, but yesterday was particularly bad. Maybe it was because of my excitement!)

Anyway, I doubt many will have the patience to watch the whole thing, but at least it will serve to sing the praises of Jeness, and perhaps show any other shaky handed people out there that they, too, CAN learn to shave with a straight razor!

Please enjoy it and let me know if I can improve my technique in any way.

Congrats on the razor. It's truly a magnificent beast. Kudos also for encouraging others who may have a similar issue with their hands for trying straight razors and showing them how it can be done. It was extraordinary.

Kudos on a great video. I'd love to see some pics of the blade as well. Did I see some spine work?

Congrats on your new custom. It looks Marvelous.

Thank you for all the kind posts. I must admit, I feel like a little kid with a new toy.

I can only post a couple of pictures I took with my phone. I am currently in Hawaii and do not have a camera here.

Here it is next to my TI 6/8 Fox and Rooster:

Thanks for the nice words everyone!

I am happy Michael likes his razor, to be honest the production lasted this long because I screwed it up the first time, this was my first 8/8+ razor  It ended up about 15/16 in size, but the order was 9/8, so I made a new blade for the scales, and this is the result.

It is forged from Böhler K510 steel, a very pure and low alloy content carbon steel, it should shave like the best of the old production razors, I hope at least :001_smile

After watching your video, I'm encouraged to shave with my straights. I, too, am afflicted with "Benign, essential, tremors" and have shaky hands.
Your use of both hands to control the razor, when shaving certain facial areas, is a new technique for me.

Thanks for sharing your video...it is well appreciated!

This is the best repercussion I've heard yet!

Don't be afraid of straight razors. With a little practice, your shakes won't interfere with your shaves at all and, as you noticed, there is no reason why you cannot use both hands on the razor when you have to.

This is one of the reasons Jenes will get a return order from me at some point. Many would try to pass off the blade even if it was not the correct size. And it seems that OP figures it was worth the wait to get exactly what he ordered.
I picked this up from Mr. Sandor a few months back. It is exquisite. The workmanship is second to none. And he will also send it to you with great edge.

Looking good brother!

Thank you Kent. I'm sure you do not remember, but you were the one who convinced me to go the custom route to get a big Chopper. I must say, it was worth everything and the price was very reasonable for what I received.

I was also thrilled at Jeness' honesty and willingness to start over so he could provide what I had ordered.

Also, +1 on the great edge he puts on the razor. The edge on mine is a notch above what I can currently produce.
