Valobra kicks it!

Another soap that doesn't surface in my rotation as often as it should.

Broke out the milled into a bowl Valobra shave stick and had one heck of a shave this evening. Super rich and creamy, slick, protecting. Just great stuff.

Right now, it is my hands down favorite soap. Using it in stick form and face lathering, I get a tremendous protective and moisturizing lather.

It is a fine soap! I used the milling process to make a puck out of two Speick sticks and thought it was a PITA! So, I tried a different approach with the Valobra: I'm using recycled margarine containers, and took two Valobra sticks and sliced them into rounds approx 3/8" thick. I place them flat in the dish, cutting some in half or quarters to fill the layer. The second stick created a second layer, add a little hot water, soaked a bit, then pressed it together. It works fine and after a few uses, smashes down into a puck.

Still a PITA, and I always wish these companies would simply offer pucks!

I think they would end up losing money. There stick is one of my favs. They make AOS's pucks and several others. If they made there own maybe the others would quit doing business with them????

I received a wooden bowl of soap from AOS in Atlanta for Christmass. The receipt said it cost $75. Who would have made this for them and why would it be so expensive?

I believe most of the wooden bowls used to contain shaving soaps are made in India. I suspect they are purchased in bulk at minimal cost and then marked up by several hundred (or even thousand) percent by whoever's name is on the outer box. I'm not sure if the brand name is responsible for sourcing and boxing the soaps or if this is done on their behalf by the contract manufacturer (noting that with some exceptions, most shaving soap brands don't actually make their own soap - particulary those that offer wooden bowls as an option)
