Using Schick Injector for my first shave ever!

I have never considered shaving since I grew up watching my dad using an electric razor all the time. Also, I keep hearing from my mom about how shaving instead of cutting a whisker will somehow make my face covered with rapid growing beards later (I would've shaved a lot early if that's true because I now know beard on man is manly).

I am a senior at my college and I reached a point in my life that I have decided to become a manly man.

Naturally, I started browsing the internet for every info about what Man does. Then I stumble upon Badger&Blade when I was searching for shaving since electric razor is just not good enough.

I finalize my shaving set up to Schick Injector Type K2 and KissmyFace brushless shave cream. I like the concept of single blade that you only have to worry about wear on one side and Schick Injector have a easy learning curve; and I like the concept of a brushless shave cream for the convenience it provides.

I prep'd with a shower and started shaving. It is probably considered a poor shave by majority of the members here because I can really feel the whiskers when I feel my skin against the grains, and I can see the whiskers/shadow from a distance. But, I am happy to say I have not nicks or cuts.

Question:

1. How do you shave with a Schick Injector? Slight pressure? And do you want the whole head flat on the skin? But when I put the head on a table I don't think the blade and the foam catcher (?) are in contact with the table.

2. How do you inject a new blade in the Type K with Hydro-Magic? I think pull out the lever makes injecting new blade easier otherwise the key forces the moving parts and bend them for the whole key to be inserted.

3. I feel pain while shaving, but no irritation/nicks/cuts/redness. Am I so afraid that the pain is psychological? Or is the blade pulling the whiskers?

Yes to very slight pressure and yes to having the head mostly flat against your face. Your skin is somewhat more flexible than the table, so the blade will contact your beard. You can slightly increase the angle of the head to your face if you desire. But keep it small and very light.

The lever is only for rinsing the blade/razor. To load a new blade simply push the key fully in and then slide the injector fully back and then forward.

Your blade may be dull. New injector blades are very sharp and shouldn't tug. You might want to load a new blade and try again tomorrow.

Good advice, above. However, I loosen the level on the Hydro-Magic to fit the key into the razor if needed. At times if I don't do that the key won't go for some reason.

Congrats on discovering injectors! I wish they'd been in my consciousness when I was your age--I didn't discover them until I was 48. Ditto on trying a different blade.

Thanks for the answers.

I guess I'm fine with everything now, and the pain I mentioned was probably imaginary because I tested with the same blade and it shaves fine now. Or it could have been me not knowing/scared to move the razor so slow down my face.

I think the pain might have been too much angle, with the blade tugging at the hairs instead of cutting cleanly.
congrats and welcome to the club!

Aha... That might be why cuz I wasn't comfortable enough to let the razor head to have full contact with my skin.
