UK Drugstore Items

Hi All,

I'll be traveling to the UK soon. I was wondering if there are any creams, soaps, aftershaves, etc. worth picking up while I am there. I won't be in London, so no Jermyn Street Shops or anything like that. I'll be in Portsmouth, Ryde, and Aberdeen. I'm thinking I'll only have access to places like drugstores. Anyone have thoughts?

You can buy TOBS in some Pharmacies. Two near me sell it and others sell Kent brushes and other bits and pieces. These are more likely to be independent businesses, not chains like Boots.

In tesco or sainsburys supermarkets you can get palmolive shave sticks for 50p and the tubes for less than £2. You can also get cheap own brand blades at either supermarket.
Also the chain Boots. Some seem to be better than others.

In Aberdeen you can get TOBS products in a shop in the Bon Accord centre. Bluebeards' Revenge products are stocked in the health foods shop Holland and Barrett (union street) and in a pharmacy on Holburn Street. Though you can find some quite interesting shave products in most independent pharmacies (eg not Boots, Lloyds) and in many high-end tobacconists.

But if you can spare an afternoon (when in Aberdeen) go to the shaving shop in Dundee, which sells everything you could ever want.

I will echo the Palmolive stick recommendation. It's cheap and awesome. Also, definitely try to find the local store and not the chain stores. When I was there, I found a little local store that had all kinds of stuff. The chains, like Boots, reminded me of CVS or Walgreens.

Erasmic is also widely available in independent drug stores. Not sure about Boots/Superdrug.

Also, to echo a comment above, the Boots Freshwood A/S balm is excellent stuff, and very cheap.

Tesco for Palmolive. £0.50 for stick, £1.80 for cream
Superdrug for Ingram shaving cream.
£1.75 for cream
You may get lucky in certain independent drug stores or specialty shops. Some barber shops do wet-shaves and also sell their own products (not distributed) so you may get a chance to pick up something really special.

+1.
Odd runny stuff & strong talc odour, but if you can get over that it makes a really good lather & decent menthol kick. Cheap too!

Runny ones have gone off due to high temps.

Needs to go in the fridge to re-solidify and it will be a cream again.

Look out for UK Brut in the glass splash bottle. If you find it there's other Brut's here too. Also if you spie it the small Black Bowl Erasmic soap, totally different to the stick. Again Erasmic cream, old comes in a metal tube and new in a plastic tube. Both real slippery with a great old scholl scent. Oldspice in 100ml bottle in place like 'Savers' or 'Pound' shop. And finally from me theres 'The Real Shaving Company' shave product aswell.

Shook it well last night & then left the the fridge.
This morning the cream is exactly the same consistency as before. I reckon it's supposed to be fairly runny judging by google searches.

I think it's too far gone.

If you are in doubt, contact Lornamead and they should replace it for you.

some of the independent pharmacies/chemists sell kent shaving soap, which is just mwf, vie long brushes and kent brushes, the kent brushes tend to be the cheap ones, most do ingrams menthol shave cream, as folk have said , its a bit runny out the tube, but its good stuff if you like menthol, one shop to try if you are near one is john lewis, its more a dept store, it has a bit more high end shave gear. tobs soaps and creams, kent, floris, brands like that.
