What's new

Trying SO hard to resist shaving.

On Friday I had to shave quickly with a disposable razor like I used to use. Bad idea. My throat was irritated and red, bumps all over, etc. I haven't shaved since. I think it will be at least two more days before it is fully healed and safe to shave again, but right now it sounds SO relaxing to clean up in the shower and enjoy a shave, however I know from experience it is a baaaad idea. I'm just trying right now to fight the urge to shave. Ugh. This sucks.

Way too scared at this point for that. I'm just trying not to turn the remaining irritation into hamburger.

Good luck with the wait! You may want to try some unrefined shea butter to help speed up the healing. Fantastic stuff!

Been in that situation a few times as well. I took the time off and gave the razors a good cleaning and light polish, give the straights an extra stropping, that sort of thing.

i just booked flights to go see a girlfriend in sweden for christmas, it will be really cold there and she likes me with a beard so i wont be shaving for a couple of months now. i didnt shave this morning and i already want to
once it gets past the prickly stage and goes soft i like having a beard but its hard to resist shaving at first. i can still shave around it on neck and cheeks and to shape the lines but not till its grown out a bit.

Try lathering up and shaving with a razor without a blade. It may be the placebo you need.

Yeah that's better than nothing. You won't get the satisfying audio feedback of a real shave but it couldn't hurt to give it a try. And your skin will thank you for not trying to shave over those razor bumps.

You may want to use an evening skin prep/healing cream. There are many good quality skin food creams that make a difference. I use Weleda Skinfood (Amazon) and it's terrific. After my shave I use witch hazel/Nivea post-shave cream, and in the cold/dry weather I'll use Zdrave cream atop the cocktail: no rashes, skin burns, etc., this regimen keeps my skin moisturized day and night, and it heals abrasions along with less-than-good-experiences when testing new/under-performing blades. And by prepping my face/stubble in the evening with Skinfood, I find the stubble easier to cleave.

My blade of choice in all my razors is SuperMax SP (from Razor Blades and More). A superior and inexpensive DE blade.

If I were you, I'd let me face heal before getting into DE shaving--shaving at this point will on exacerbate your skin's condition.
