I have seen a considerable amount of criticism for Trumper soaps, which suffered "reformulation" somewhere along the line.
It had been well over ten years since I had tried a Trumper soap when I received their Oxford Blue a few weeks ago. I didn't purchase the beautiful blue and gold scuttle; instead I placed the refill soap in my Crabtree and Evelyn scuttle. The Oxford Blue soap is 56 g and concave, while the scuttle was designed for a 50 g concave soap, but the combination works perfectly fine.
This soap really is worth a try. It takes me about four minutes to achieve a wonderful lather with my Vulfix 660 in Super, which is longer than it takes me with other soaps, but the lather is extremely rewarding: plenty of cushion, enough slickness and a VERY DELICATE and distinctive powdery scent, to which I have begun to look forward. I should add that I place a few drops of hot water on the soap shortly before loading the brush.
I cannot compare this soap to the Trumper soaps of yesteryear because I cannot clearly call to mind their performance. I can, however, recommend this fine soap for anyone looking for a very good performer with a mild and distinctive fragrance.
Of course, this soap is not inexpensive, but it didn't take me very long to produce a thick lather, so it may turn out to be a value of sorts; only time will tell. In any case, I look forward to using this soap once or twice a week now and I intend to keep in rotation.
I will soon add a scan of the label with the listed ingredients for anyone who might be interested.
