Traveling restrictions

I am less than a week taking an aerial journey that will likely last at least 4 or 5 days. This will be an international trip, so I am wondering if I will be able to pack a DE razor with a few blades, or an injector, or what anyone would have for advice. I most likely will not have access to my normal kit for a few days. Thanks for any suggestions.

One thing to mention...on a recent vacation (2 international and 2 domestic flights), before all 4 flights I had to open my shaving bag so they could take a look at the razor even though there were no blades in the bag. So although they may not see blades on the x-ray, they may still want to be sure. Didn't slow me down too much, but if you're making connections, it's something to be aware of. I'll probably just pack the Atra next time.

As Luc says, DEs are fine, but blades are a no-no for hand luggage. Unless you wish to go completely Neanderthal for those few days, it is probably best to pack a cartridge of some kind and the usual small versions of your shaving kit.
I tend to use a lot of samples when I travel- easy to pack and they can be discarded after a couple of uses.
Safe flying!

On flights to the Middle East and Europe I travel with a cheap disposable in my cabin baggage. If any security person gets overly sensitive about it, it’s only a disposable that you stand to loose.
Going ‘woolly’ appears to be a chic alternative.

Travel has been quite an inconvenience of late and I've lost sunscreen, cans of pop, toothpaste and all sorts of sundry things. Then there is a matter of trying to fit the case in those overhead compartments. Not a problem if you are first on a plane but quite a problem when you are one of the last ones in. I've decided the hassle of trying to fit everything into carry on isn't worth it and I would rather wait a few extra minutes and pick up my baggage. Therefore, I pretty much pack what I need and want.

I've been (domestically) traveling with my Merkur HD 34C every week for several months, and am now in the habit of taking it out of its case, unscrewing the top from the base, and placing it in the bin with my 311 bag and shoes. TSA agents have thanked me for making it so accessible. I figure it adds less time to proactively take it out and put it away than it does to be singled out for a more thorough search.

If you need to check a bag, pack your shaving gear in that. If you're going carry-on, then you will need to compromise.

DE blades don't go on planes. I'd mail a few blades ahead of your ASAP (just put some blades in an envelope & mail it like a letter)...if you don't have enough time, you can always find some at a drug store or something at your destination. It won't be great, but it'll do.

If you've still got a cartridge razor, it might be worth breaking it out for the trip, too -- cartridges can go on planes.

I have given up doing any carry on but my notebook and insulin/insulin supplies. I check everything else. So far, I haven't lost anything and the extra few hours hassle seems worth it.

I would like it if an exception were made for DEs, but I don't think that will be the case. Security in the USA is a huge profit market whose interests are served by promoting paranoia.

When I flew to Turkey recently, I put my razor and blades into my hold luggage. It's worth keeping a spare razor for travelling if you're worried about the possibility of losing one of your valued items.

+1. This goes against conventional wisdom, but I gladly trade a little of my time (and money) for check through. The only things I carry on are prescription meds and reading material.

..say, something the size of a bank pouch. Surely it wouldn't be able to go through the automated baggage handling system, though. Do the airlines have provisions for checking very small things?

There isn't a minimum size but I would be concerned about it being easily lodged somewhere in the system. If you want to check a small pouch, I would place it in a small box with a label it.

So, its ok to bring DE blades as long as its in your "checked" luggage bag?

As others have said, you can DE razors, booze, lighters and other items in checked baggage. However, China now has more strict restrictions on lighters so be careful when travelling to there. I would imagine other nations may follow that lead. Regardless, a fueled lighter needs to be in an approved DOT container.
